Default Estes Laser Torpedo

This was a fun kit. It's just off the work table and will probably won't go up until this weekend (my wife has passed a "No new rocket launches until I can go too" law lol).
Here ya go

That's cool. I've always liked that rocket.

When my shoulder heals, I need to try to turn a nosecone and clone one.

Nice Job!

I have the same kit still in the box. I think Estes only made the kit in 1979. It's got a balsa nose cone with a screw eye. It's surprising though that the decals are press and stick. I would have thought an Estes kit that old would have water slide decals...

The kit from the same series that I'd really like to see and never have is Kit No. 1313 the Cylon Raider.

Anyway can't wait to hear how it flys.

The page from the catalog shown on Ninfinger's site says that the Cylon Raider rocket was unavailable at that time. Given its shape, it would have had to have been a glorified nose cone with a rocket attached (like the Starship Enterprise kits were). This was pre-Flying Saucer, after all. You could build one now for "vertical takeoff" as a form of flying saucer, kind of like the ones Art Applewhite sells (but more detailed).

You have never seen the Cylon Raider because it was never released.
More than likely would have had severe stability problems or would not have looked anything like it should in actual flight configuration.

Yes, there is such a thing as NORMAL
, if you have to ask what is "NORMAL" , you probably aren't !

Failure may not be an OPTION, but it is ALWAYS a POSSIBILITY.
ALL systems are GO for MAYHEM, CHAOS, TURMOIL, FIASCOS, and HAVOC !

I wish Estes had done the same with the Trade Federation Battleship. That thing just can't get out of it's own way...

Thanks for the info. Solomoriah and ghrocketman

From what I've read in other posts, that would make the Cylon Raider "vaporware" correct??

Cool looking rocket. Looks like a great paint job. Can't get those results around here right now. 105 degrees with air you can wear. (humid)

Not that I would know...just surmising..idle thought...

If I offend, I ask for your humble forgiveness, please?

Anyways, that Torpedo looks fantastic! Have seen a couple on E-Bay and at first blush wasn't too 'jazzed' about it..But it looks enough in the 'cool' factor to snag one when I see one

Lets just say I was having as much fun as is humanly possible outside of a vintage hobby shop or between the sheets. I lowsided the bike and the irresistible force (me) found an immovable object (concrete retaining wall).

As for the crumbling decals, Micro Sol decal film will fix the problem. I used it on my 70's vintage Astron Interceptor decals a few weeks ago. Good stuff!
