Was there ever a production rocket with this type of rear ejection?

To echo chrism's good question, have you ever produced a kit that used the vented "piston" partial-ejection motor mount? Those would make nice, small-field educational/sport models for everything from 13 mm motors and up.

It's a design I considered for patent and I guess I now have a year to do so or not.

This has been tested in a wide range of rocket styles. The theory is to need only motors and a low skill set and a small field. No chute packing, wadding, or much of anything except the pure rocketry experience.

I am partial to slide-pods for gliders and also like flop wings. I have flown slide wings, swing wings, and dual flop wings, etc. Not so great.

As for using this design on a glider one would have to add some feature to prevent it from bouncing back even a little to get proper trim. Not reliable. I have tried internal swedge for that but is not so good as a production item, but okay for a limited usage hand fitted item.

The internal parts need servicing every few flights if you want to be that detailed.

For sport, making it loosey and not critical as to absolute position, it can be reused dozens of times.

The single side hole also causes the rocket to start to tumble properly even in mild wind. It's a really cool design.

I'd do it if I were in your position. That slide-mount would work well for CG-shifting RGs (Rocket Gliders), and I like your idea about a simple, minimalist ballistic rocket kit using this motor mount that could either tumble or do a tail-slide glide (depending on the rocket's length) after ejection.
