I just like gathering data - which is why I fly altimeters in most of my models, and why I love the AltimeterThree, which, thanks to having accelerometers as well as a pressure sensor, can show things that a barometric-only altimeter can’t. The nice presentation of that data in the AltimeterThree application helps, too.

Every now and then I have to bore the rest of you guys with some of it .

Not boring to me! I dig into flight test data all the time.

Anyway, thanks for showing those results. I've ordered a few packs of Q-Jet C and D motors to try out.

Not boring to me either!

I read up on the AltimeterThree this afternoon on the Jolly Logic. It# a very impressive little altimeter.

I’ve got a Chute Release, haven’t tried it yet. I’m impressed with the thoughtfulness of their designs.

I've flown my Estes X-Wing, the all plastic 18mm version, on a C12 and D16. It flies very well on those motors, much better than a C6. It's a bit disappointing the D16 is only a baby D, there was little *noticeable* difference in flight performance. It's good they're only 20% more expensive, or it wouldn't be worth buying them. In any case, still nice motors, I expect I'll use them quite a bit. Quest has 12 motor bulk packs now available, which saves 23% on the C12, and 18% on the D16. Sirius Rocketry sells 2 packs of both for about 20% off.

I just went to the NAR motor page to see the real numbers to see what they look like compared to Quest's published numbers and they aren't listed.

The Q-Jets were certified by Tripoli, so the data aren’t on the NAR site. Over on that other forum I asked Mark Koelsch for the data since he prepared the cert letters for Tripoli (before his recent untimely passing). He posted them there, but here they are. And, yes, I know the C data letter is misnamed.

He also submitted both .rse and .eng files for these to thrustcurve.org, so the data are available for use in your favorite simulator. The results I’m getting, with the B, C and D data in a Nova Payloader in Open Rocket, are looking reasonable vs. measured performance.

Thank you for transferring the data, Bernard.

Here is “composite view” of performance information for A to D Q-Jets I grabbed from a FB post from Gary. Handy to have with the Estes thrust curves shown in the Estes catalogs.

The thing that has mystified me the most about these things is that the As and Bs are both certified to be right at the top of the total impulse for their classifications....but in practice they are really no better than their Estes counterparts performance-wise, while the numbers say they should be. I was more than pleasantly surprised to find the Cs really do live up to that extra N-s over Estes C6s.

I hope they’ll improve in delay accuracy (or we’ll just learn to deal with them running long vs. Estes’ delays tending to run short). And I hope they’ll figure out an appropriate ejection charge amount. The first runs (May manufacturing dates) were way too much. The September-dated motors seem better in that regard though I have had one fail to get the ‘chute out of a BT-60 model. However, that delay was also way too long, so the model was coming down at a pretty good clip when the ejection charge went off (the Citation Patriot I mentioned in the post above with the AltimeterThree data in it).
