Default Should I feel guilty

I had an odd sense that for some reason I should feel guilty because I just started a couple of oop kits. First is a 2157 Estes s5 with molding oldies parts. The shroud and fin combo appears to be warped any advice on straightening them? Second is a quest x30 aerospace plane.

I would far rather see an OOP kit built and on a launch pad than in pieces in a bag.

I can think of three reasons not to build an OOP kit:

Selling it would bring in so much money I could "clone" one for myself.

It is beat up enough not to be a collectible.

It is an irreplaceable historic find, and leaving it unbuilt would mean I can measure/scan in the parts so others have the ability to clone it. but once that is done, build away!

IMO kits are meant to be built. I have a A LOT of kits the "rocket room" and not one of them has immunity.

Go ahead and build them!
A collector would cringe if they saw the old kits I've opened up.
But, If I had a 1960s era Scout unopened (in a mailing tube) I probably wouldn't build it.

Estes Saturn Vs and Quest X30 Aerospace Plane kits are still on sale on Ebay.
Granted, some people want more than I'd ever pay for them.

I did a build of the X-30 Aerospace Plane on the blog:
http://modelrocketbuilding.blogspot...rospace%20Plane

And the Estes Saturn V:
http://modelrocketbuilding.blogspot...abel/Saturn%20V

The only drag about doing a blog is the builds are in reverse, from finished to start.
You should be able to pick up some build tips though.

If you never build it, it's only a KIT.

If you never fly it, it's only a MODEL.

Only when you put a motor in it and launch it towards the heavens does it truly become a ROCKET!

Later,

How much trouble would it be when you add a new part to a build series to go to the previous part and add a link to the new one? That way, a reader can start with the first part and read and follow the links.

I think most OOP kits would qualify for that criteria, though that tradeoff has probably gone up for many of them with Semroc shutting down. The kits containing unique parts generally tend to command a higher market price.

I have mixed feelings on this.

First and foremost, these rocket kits were made to build and

fly

and that is the only reason I'll buy one.

On the other hand, if some poltroon wants to hand over a huge wad of cash, I will gladly separate the fool from his money and go clone the kit and maybe another 2 or 3 depending on how big a fool.

Would I ever feel remorse for building a kit and someone telling me later that one in worse shape fetched a mint on Ebay?

No, they are made to fly.
