Question on pricing rockets
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'll try.
I have some rockets I would like to sell. I would like to ask a fair price for them. My problem is I don't know what a fair price is on most of the rockets. Is there a place or site where one could look to get an idea of a fair price on an item? I know it's a crazy question but I had to ask anyway. |

Gerry Fortin was tracking pricing on Ebay sales for a while
http://www.seateddimevarieties.com/BAR/home.htm I believe there is also a link to some of the tracking done by Mojo1986 (Joe) on the web site. Might give you a rough idea ........ |

I have the same issue with about 850 kits I am trying to sell for a friend.
I don't want to get greedy but I don't want to cheat my friend. Some of the prices on Gerry Fortin prices are pretty high, but I guess that is what they went for on Ebay.

I still marvel at some of the insane prices for old K kits on Gerry Fortin's site. I'm coming to the realization that so many of my kits will never get built. I'm just not motivated to sell, because I don't need the money. I'd just blow it on something that isn't really needed.

Depends on what they are. If they have unique parts that are no longer available, or something that makes them difficult to clone, then the price can be higher. Higher skill level kits with more parts also can command a higher price. Some kits will always have a high price- Centuri Little Joe II, Maxi-brute Pershing, etc.
It also has to do with why you are selling things off. Too many kits that you bought to build and never got around to and you pure running out of storage- price them to move. Trying to price every kit as if it's a collector's item will make it hard to actually sell. Using ebay past auctions can help, but they can skew your numbers if you happen upon that one kit that had a bidding war between folks that have deep pockets. Look at similar kits that are on sale today- I know you won't find the exact thing, but if it's a BT-55 rocket with balsa fins and nothing special, price it close to a current BT-55 kit with balsa fins and nothing special. You're sure to make money on the deal (unless you paid way too much for the kit in the first place as a collector's item) because they will actually sell. Original kits that have had reissues tend to have a dip in prices. kj |

Will Kevinj I have read your post a couple times and what you are saying makes a lot of sense.
I like what you said about the reason for selling. I am selling them because I have come to the realization that I will never have time to build them all so why not give someone else a chance to. I think this is the first thing from here on out I will keep in mind from now on. Too bad, there isn't a model rocket blue book. |

Between inflation and scarcity and age, they are actually worth it. You can always clone it for under 5% the price.
