Default Something I wanted to do for my grand daughter

My grand daughter loves to work on wood when she comes over.

She loves the shave horse and using a draw knife and spoke shave.

So...I made her a tool box for all of her tools.

The wood was an 8'x12" pine board my BIL gave me, the hardware was on clearance (70% of) at my local Ace Hardware.

The tools I picked out from my "stash" of old tools.

BTW, this was made with hand tools, hand planes, scrapers, hand saws...no power tools were involved!

Hand cutting 72 dove tails took a while, I would just go into the shop and cut one or two, leave, come back later and cut some more until they were all done.

Not as hard as you would think.

She's coming tomorrow so we'll see if she likes it.

Let's see if somebody can make that with a 3D printer!

Very nice. I am sure she will be thrilled. I too love woodworking. I had pretty much abandoned model rocketry for a couple years, focusing more time to woodworking. I am tryinmg to work out a balance between the two.

I started working on rockets again, because I have two grand daughters that are 7 and 4 (soon to be 8 and 5) and the time seems perfect to get them out to launch a few rockets.

I'm in the exact same position except I'm retired so, I have a bit more time.

As for rockets, I have over 100 built plus probably 400 unbuilt kits.

I need to fly stuff!

Beautiful work! The way it should be done.
She'll have it (and a great memory) forever.

I'll take one.

Did you use a varnish? If so, what did you use?

Varnish is for boats!

I used boiled linseed oil on the inside. The outside is 3 coats of hand rubbed tung oil.

This is a tool box so the linseed oil covers up dings as they happen and the tung oil is really easy to touch up maybe once a year.

I thought the others should see who the box is for. Gordy's not lying when he says she loves woodworking. She made me and Emma the coolest little wooden cube within a cube.
