Default Odd space missions...

Hello All,

In her article (see: www.universetoday.com/92022/earths-other-moons/ ) about Earth’s additional natural satellites (temporarily captured asteroids that have been discovered; mathematician Ed Belbruno’s WSB [Weak Stability Boundary] transfer work predicted these, by the way), space historian Amy Shira Teitel wrote:

“A crew wouldn’t be able to land on something a few metres across, but they could certainly study it up close and gather samples.” Well:

I suspect that any astronauts (or cosmonauts, spacionauts, or taikonauts) who visit these temporary moons will whimsically disprove Ms. Teitel’s assertion, by planting their nation’s flag on it—even if only long enough to snap pictures of the absurd scene, with the “world” in question being only slightly bigger than the flag on its staff (a cupcake-topper-size flag would look less ridiculous, but not by very much...). I guess they could call it “a Kerbal Space Program [ https://kerbalspaceprogram.com/en/ ] moment.” :-)

Yes--a Batrok kit left on the surface would be an appropriate commemoration. :-)

That's what I meant, too. The original catalog description for the Batrok mentioned its payload section for flying a specimen, and added that "No, that's not an Italian astronaut."

Imagine telling the writer of that ad copy that, back then ("Pardon me--did you say 'wordy?'"). :-)
