Default Centuri Quasar tail cone?

JimZ seems to be down again, so I'm contacting the Hive Mind.

The local rocket club got a box of donations from a "retired" rocketeer.

One of the almost-complete unbuilt kits in the collection includes a Centuri Quasar. It looks like eRockets can supply the missing "ram jet" cones. (I'm assuming that they are same parts as used in the SST Shuttle 1.)

However, the paper tail cone is missing. Is this a standard Centuri paper transition? Anyone know the particular model? Presumably the outer diameter is the same as the main tube, which I believe is a ST-16.

Thanks,

Stefan

P.S. I'll be scanning in the details of another donation, an Energet Pterodactyl. An unbuilt model, with decals and everything. There's also a Enerjet-era Aero-Dart, fairly nicely built but not finished. These will be built / finished by another member. We'll document everything!

The Quasar was a kit I have wanted for over 40 years. It will be a pleasure seeing one given a second chance.
I did not know Erockets had those ramjet cones. I was going to cast some out of resin for my SST Shuttle just in case one was to get lost.

You are correct with the body tube diameter as being ST-16.

Semroc sells pre-cut fins as well.

The Quasar that was donated has a plastic cone with a molded "cockpit." Not sure if the early versions had balsa and a paper cockpit.

Any ideas about the tail cone?

Unless Randy changed the parts, the ramjet nose parts also included the tail cones. They came in a complete of three pairs when I ordered them from Semroc years ago.

By "tail cone," they weren't referring to the little "tail" pieces of the ramjet thingees on the fins.
They were referring to the ST-16 to ST-10 paper shroud. The notes in the JimZ plans state that this transition was 2.4375-inches long.

The VCP-generated tif looks to me to be scaled correctly. I created a shroud template in Open Rocket - see attached.

I built a clone from the Jimz plans. The paper shroud tail cone fit well, but the fins did not. I had to trim the root edges a bit to get them to follow the contour correctly.

I purchased an early one. It had a balsa nose cone with paper cockpit. Paper tail cone. The nose cone was the same as the V2, which at the time was about 6" long not 5.5" the cone became shorter overtime. Quasar cone not drilled for the nose weight.

Although the early catalog pics show it with a V2 style boat tail it never came with one. I remember being disappointed. Have no clue why the change was made. Cost? Or maybe to make finalignment easier.
