I don't mind the booster STREAMLINING in one bit.
Adds EXCITEMENT/DANGER factor to a boring LPR flight.
The Scorpion/Mongoose booster NEVER has really tumbled...it used to kind of "Pancake" in and now it "Lawn Darts".
Ity'll doo nicely just AS IT IS.

Wouldnt it be great if the new Estes brought back the "Design of the Month" contest.

Bringing back the DOM contest ( and MRN ) would be a great idea.

Default Well...

Much as I loved the DOM and MRN back in the day, I'm sure we all realize that DOM was not only an avenue for inspiring us youngsters to use our fertile imaginations --- it was also a means of selling PARTS. And modern Estes, thus far, hasn't really pushed PARTS like old-timie Estes did.

If the new owners placed at least SOME emphasis on PARTS, then I think a DOM would be wonderful --- and exciting to see what great new designs emerge from this generation's model rocketeers!

One issue with rebooting DOM other than Estes pushing parts. It won't do much for the imaginations of this generation of rocketeers. It will mainly have entries from the same age folks that entered it in the 60's and 70's. Very few kids of today will take time to build a kit, much less something they designed.

FWIW - a 2010 photo of John Langford and Mary Roberts. It was taken at the 2010 World Space Modeling Championships (WSMC), held in Serbia.
