Just how hard....
of a landing does it take to do this?!?!?!?
From article: landed at Puerto Ordaz in a manner that has been described as "very hard." Kinda seems to be a little bit of an under stated fact! Full story here ..

The aircraft is 35yrs old. Not just "a" hard landing, but structural fatigue probably played a part. From the looks of the rear end, there is now some structural damage to the fusalage as well. Hard landing indeed, to cause that, but something else contributed to all that damage, like corrosion.

That is what happens when you DE-regulate airlines...

It could be worse:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrE65Z2lT4c This was human error BTW. It was during the certification of the MD-80 while performing high-sink rate landings. The sink rate wasn't supposed to be this high. |

Nonsense. Or do you mean the airlines are de-regulated in Venezuela? When was the last time you worked in airline maintenance to make a statement like that? And what is your basis? Besides, aircraft maintenance in the US and virtually the rest of the world is HIGHLY regulated. |

Ahha well my bad then, I'm sorry. I have worked in aircraft maintenance for the better part of 20 years and I'm pretty close to the subject. A lot of people when they say that the airlines were "deregulated" think that applied to everything the airlines did. Not so. It was only applied to fares and routes; anything over which the FAA had oversight was unaffected. In fact, in the regulation of maintenance has greatly increased in the past 30 years. Specific to the engines coming off that airplane – I am surprised the landing gear didn’t collapse or punch up through the belly. |
