Hi, Bob,

None of us want to think this way, but I'm afraid the real explanation is, we're getting old

That is, the millennials aren't as interested in this stuff as the boomers, et al.

I'd guess winter has something to do with it. Here in northern Illinois, it's too darned cold to be flying rockets, so the store won't be selling many. Why carry stock if it doesn't move?

It has been a year since I started this thread. After seeing rockets on closeout on the FB Estes group, I picked up a few from my local HLs. Today I picked up a Baby Bertha for $7.99. The rocketry section is bare. I don't know if HL is discontinuing rockets for good or going to re-stock for Christmas. It would be a shame if HL stops selling rockets.

It's a restock. They do it every year to some degree, so I'm told.

Model Rockets are not being discontinued.

Yellow tag is the standard new pricing.

More items will replace the red/orange tagged items that were discontinued by Hobby Lobby.

"discontinued by Hobby Lobby" does not mean "discontinued by Estes".

The yellow "Your Price" tags won't allow for the 40% discount at HL.

That is their intent.

Probably helps prevent losses or very low profit on items.

Customers who would shop daily or weekly for one item with the smartphone app coupon were not helping them make money and were wasting a lot of the customer's time.

Now youth groups that want to buy lots of items do not need to send in dozens of people to buy one item at a time at 40% off. They can just buy it all at 30% off at one time.

Still not open on Sunday. Maybe Michael's will carry Model Rockets again eventually?

For the first time in quite a while, they had a new addition: the anniversary Alpha VI!

Two were on the rack. One remains. For now.

I picked up two Alpha VI kits for $3.49 each about a week ago during the clearance at HL. Also scored several Majestic for $12.49, and 29mm motors also 75% off. One store had the new yellow price tags. Reasonable discount (maybe ~ 30%?, I wasn’t paying a lot of attention). Apparently no 40% off allowed under their new pricing model, just price everything competitively.

I have been to 4 of them near me, and I go to 3 states. MD, VA, & W.VA and it looks like Hobby Lobby is no longer going to carry the 29mm E and F engines. I bought what was there on the huge liquidation sale at the beginning of July, and went back to see if they restocked, nope. Peg is removed and tag is gone that held those engines. Many kits and RTF stuff restocked, but nothing new. Same old crap, no good models of Estes kits, just same old same old.
