NEW Product Announcement - Qualman Rocketry Model Rocket Dividers
The Qualman Rocketry Model Rocket Divider keeps your parachute, shroud lines, shock cord and wadding near the top of the rocket. Also, includes a built-in Kevlar shock cord mount which can be used in place of a tri-fold shock cord mount. We recommend tying one end of the Kevlar into a loop that is just inside the end of the body tube with the divider in position. Then tie an elastic shock cord to the Kevlar loop. Each divider is precision laser cut from 1/8 inch thick lite ply. A divider is used with recovery wadding or a Nomex cloth (not meant to replace a baffle). Comes in these sizes - BT50, 29mm, BT55, BT56, BT60, BT70 and BT80.
See them all at this link - Qualman Rocketry Model Rocket Dividers Best regards, Brian

Nifty idea, I was gonna add a laundry shelf to an upcoming BT55 build and may give one of those a try.
DavidQ, if you're out there, do you have any pics that show how the shock cord is mounted? Curious. Also, do you recommend coating the undersides with epoxy to protect against the ejection charge? |

Neil, I'm not a camera hound, but here's what I've got.
There's a very small notch in the perimeter of the disk. You slide your cord into it and secure it with glue. You'll want to make sure that the cord is securely glued to the divider. Depending on the size of the cord, you might choose to shave off a bit more to enlarge the notch. As for covering with epoxy, I can't say you are wrong if you do, or are wrong if you don't. It's made of plywood, so I expect it to be quite durable. But, if its a rocket you launch a lot, and expose it to heat often, then I recommend that you prepare it however you would prepare a baffle. |
