Default DynaStar Snarky

I really like the way the DynaStar Snarky looks. but it is a mid-powered rocket and is to big to fly locally. I was wandering if anyone could give me some dimensions of the nose, body, fins, etc. so that I can make a down-scale sometime in the near future. thanks.

The Snarky can be flown on Estes D motors. Snarky with a D12-5 sims to 395' and with a C11-3 to 181' so really a fairly small field would work. The Snarky design file is included with the free demo version of RockSim and can be downloaded from the link on the same page that describes the kit on the Apogee website. All the kit dimensions would be included in the design file.

Downscaling this could be a major pain without the original scoop patterns to cut out the scallops. It's not exactly a straightforward 30 or 45 degree mitre cut. Also, the decals really set this apart, so you'd need a scan of those as well.

Bottom line--snaquin's advice is sound--on a D12 this really can still fly a small field, and with a C11 you can go REALLY small. Go ahead and pick up the full size, since you'll need some critical parts out of it anyway even if you want to downscale.

Agreed. This is really barely what might be considered MPR. I've flown mine on C11-3, D12-5, and E9-4. The C11-3 is for real small fields, and while it will fly fine on this, really isn't enough for a fun launch. The D12-5 is fine for a baseball diamond or soccer field, the 5 second delay is a tad long, looks cool arcing over before deployment. You could probably get by with a D12-3, but expect early deployment. This is one of my favorite modern kits out there and IMHO, worth the price. My favorite for this bird is the E9-4. It is plenty light for the lower thrust.

You can fly that one anywhere (in medium backyards and all schoolyards) on a C11-3 and on a D12-5 almost anywhere you would fly A-C model rockets

He's got scratchbuilding fever now. He built his Goblin clone and he's now finished a completely scratchbuilt semi-scale HARM missile (I'll try to get some pics of it online sometime). Now he's wanting to scratch a BT-80 based Raytheon Patriot and a BT-60 based Snarky. Ticks me off too cause he's using my stash of parts! I reckon he just needs to save his pennies for the full sized one cause I ain't buying it for him!
