No way in hell did Tony Stewart do that on purpose. He has WAY too much to lose.

Stewert's press release said he's sorry and sad, but it sure does sound (and look) like he hit the gas when he hit the guy.

The racing community, NASCAR, etc., should severly penalize any driver that gets out of his car and exhibits road rage like pointing at other cars, throwing objects at cars, fighting on the track or pits, etc. Severe penalties would include forfieture of money (5-50%) of last year's winnings, suspension from races, suspension from racing on all circuits in North America.

Stewart actions will be investigated. The Sheriff is asking for any video of the incident to be submitted to them for analysis. If they charge Stewart and he is found guilty I hope he goes to prison for it, normal sentencing for the conviction, and not get a slap on the wrist because he is a "celebrity".

IMO, I find it hard to believe that Tony hit him on purpose. For a driver to get out of his NOT ON FIRE car and onto an active track is suicide.

I see it as a very bad accident.

It looks to me like Stewart's wing clipped him which knocked him under the right rear wheel. When he stops rolling it appears his head is twisted by 180 degrees. Pretty gruesome.

Truthfully, from that video I can't tell if Tony gunned it or not. It's true like it says down in the article, when you crank the throttle on a Sprint car it kicks the rear out to the right. They're basically drifters on dirt tracks. Either way he got himself way too close to the guy. Blame goes both ways though. That kid should not of gone after him on the track either.

Particularly on a track where the cars are commonly going sideways.

Race tracks are NEVER designed for pedestrians. ANY person wandering onto an active track (under caution or not) should be SUMMARILY AT FAULT for whatever they get EVEN IF a car INTENTIONALLY clips them. STAY THE HELL OFF THE TRACK, PERIOD !

Regardless of the wisdom of his actions, someone died. You going to tell his grieving family he was an idiot?

Give it a rest, GH.

How many times have we heard that "rocketry is an inherently dangerous activity"? How much more dangerous are 2,000 lb + sprint cars fishtailing around a quarter mile dirt track at high speeds just inches apart from each other and barely under control? The fist fights are normally had in the pits after the heat, not out on the track. Even the hot headed A. J. Foyt knew that.

It's a recipe for disaster and I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often.
