There's a whole fan site dedicated to that "Leif Erickson" model.

The original came with a little phonograph record of spaceship sounds!

Too bad it was a flop. It might have been the first of a bunch of cool spaceships.

I had two of the glow-in-dark version at one point.

I thought about differentiating between Dougs, but I thought the mention of the foam would suffice.

The wav file was cool. If I could figure out how to do that I'd belch the alphabet for you.

Bill,

If I tell you how to make a wave file, will you promise not to belch the alphabet?

Most PC's nowadays have microphones built into them. They also typically have some sort of digital recoding sofware, too.

On mine, you click on START | PROGRAMS | ACCESSORIES | ENTERTAINMENT | SOUND RECORDER and, viola, you're in bidnez

Doug
The rest is left as an exercise for Bill...

(I know, it's voila, but viola has strings attached.

I'm assuming Bill was referring not just to foam, but to *cheesy* foam.

And Doug, unfortunately I'm at the Kathryn Linnemann branch of the St. Charles City-County Library right now, using one of their public computers that has no speakers, I am totally unable to listen to what I'm *sure* is an awesome wave file. Darn it! Darn it all to heck!

I'm in St. Charles visiting my mother, who had hip-replacement surgery about 3 weeks ago and is doing just fine.

Hope your mom's doing well. Mine broke her hip last year, and the surgery didn't heal. She was in terrific pain for 3 or 4 months when they finally did the replacement. Seems her diabetes had rendered the femur unable to knit itself together. But the new hip is doing fine and she's playing golf again.

When you head back to Lambert, wave to Maryland Heights, my old stomping grounds for 11 years.

...

I can recall a few times over the years where the air traffic overhead was bothersome. While most of the lower level (ie, loud) traffic was in the area southwest of Hazelwood down to Earth City, every once in a while there would be some planes stacked up over Maryland Heights and Creve Coeur. I can recall standing on my deck thinking that I could probably get pretty dang close to those TWA L1011's with an Alpha on a C6-7

It wouldn't'a scared 'em away, but I'd'a felt better

Doug

Hey, that's what matters.

We moved my mom to Columbia, MO, today, to be closer to two of my sisters who live there. The hope is that she'll be moving from a skilled nursing facility to an assisted living place in a few weeks.

We're going through something of the same thing with my father in law. He's still on his own, but in the past few months he has wrecked his car during an ill-advised attempt to drive to our house in the snow and started skipping his medications and doctors appointments. It's been pretty tough on my wife. Hope things work out for all of you.
