Default Trashy level 1 parts

For a few years now, I've been collecting tubes from the garbage at work with the intent of eventually using one as the basis for my level 1 bird. I'd been planning on doing a Goony, probably the Star Snoop because of the relative 3fnc ease of the project, but last night I ran across a tube that may have changed my mind.

I've had the tall tube for a while. The short one is my new find.

So, when was the last time someone certed using a Vector G upscale?

Bill,

I'd cut the short tube in half. Otherwise, it should make a fine ring tailed rocket. It will be draggy which will help keep it low and slow.

How come? I was thinking that the transition and five fin setup would make for huge drag making it low and slow. Think I'm trying to do too much in the name of uniqueness?

I see what you're doing now. I was thinking ring tail (for which my TLAR calibrated eyeball tells me it's too long). But, having peeked at the Vector V at Semroc, I now see what how the tubes are supposed to fit together. It should be about right for an upscale. How do you plan to make your rings?

BTW, build it for a 38 mm mount. That will give you many more options for your L1 motor.

Not sure on the rings just yet. I'll be going out and looking into my options later in the week. (Burning off vacation days.) Need to make a cone, too.
As for the 38mm mount, that was the way I was thinking about going. Not committed yet, but that's the likely course.

Oh, there will be video. That I can guarantee. Both ground and on board.

Sorry, I missed this on the first go-round, Ed. I'm not sure of the diameter, but I'll measure it when I get home. At any rate, I appreciate the offer.

Life intervened last week, so I never got to make an in-depth study of the Hobby Lobby woodpile. Today, though, I managed to make time for a trip and not only got a pack of E9-4s for Saturday's possible launch, but a piece of 3/32" basswood for the new fins for my big Taurus repair, AND two large squares of plywood that will be able to be used for both sets of rings for the Vector G(arbage). Nothing suitable for the nose cone, but I never expected anything, so it wasn't a big disappointment.

If the larger tube is long enough, then go for the Vector-G upscale.

One I have only seen maybe one upscale of in my 35+ years in the hobby.

keep us posted.
