Sheryl,
I am so sorry for your loss. I was shocked. SEMROC has been and is my fovorite rocketry company. Everyone loved Carl, even us who never had the chance to met him. Carl, you, Bruce, and your family are in my prayers.

I first met Carl, in person, at NARAM-50, even though we live only about 20 miles from each other, here in NC. We hit it off right away and talked until we wore each other out. Later, he and I worked together in starting a local rocket club which, unfortunately, didn't last after it's primary organizer moved out of state.
I am so deeply saddened, as I type this . . . We have lost an "icon" in Model Rocketry . . . We have lost a "Gentleman among Gentlemen" . . . I have lost a good friend and I miss him terribly ! God Speed, Carl . . . Dave Fitch |

My busy schedule has kept me away from YORF for quite a while, but I had to post here, having read this entire thread.
It's been weeks now, and I am still stunned. Carl and I often talked and I find a real void in my life now. I hurt for Sheryl and Bruce and wish I could hug them close. We lost family. It hurts.

Continue to Remember The Family
I don't suspect many (any) of the YORF family has forgotten this news, however let's continue to remember Sheryl and Bruce as they push on with Semroc. If WE feel the loss as customers and friends, one can only imagine what it is like for them as 'family'.
I pray that God's blessings, warmth, and presence will abide with Sheryl and Bruce these days and weeks. Earl

I was just thinking about that today, considering what sort of assistance I could offer beyond just buying stuff. SEMROC is such an important part of the rocketry fabric that we need to support it as much as possible.

They have a programmable laser cutter and nose cone cutter, and these production tools could be used for other revenue-generating work. Recommending them to other small firms (or modeling groups) could result in them getting part production contracts. For example: Model airplane groups occasionally have batches of historically significant or popular out-of-production kits made up for commemorative events, conventions, and contests. For example, the long-gone British company called Frog ("Fly Right Off the Ground," see: www.houseoffrog.co.uk/index.htm ) made many popular all-sheet balsa as well as built-up balsa-and-tissue model gliders and airplanes, including Jetex jet models (which could be powered by today's Rapier jet motors; some could also be made into boost-gliders). I have corresponded with Mike Stuart, who maintains the above-linked Frog kits website, and he said that Frog has been gone for so long that he considers the archived plans to be in the public domain; in fact, two "cottage industry" British companies now produce a few selected Frog kits. Plans for kits from other much-loved but long-departed companies such as Keil Kraft, Veron, and Skyleada are also available online (see: http://www.jetex.org/models/models.html ).

I'll add a site to this for some really nostalgic plans: Outerzone The only drawback to this is the set-up time, which in the case of laser cutting, is the time needed to draw the parts out in Corel Draw, plus the time needed to feed the laser with the patterns and the wood. Of course, once the patterns are done, they're stored in a series of files like those we did here a few years back for fin sheets. If you want to suggest this route to Sheryl and Bruce, consider working up your plan patterns yourself, then "contributing" the files to SEMROC so they won't have to go through the (whole) process themselves. I'd be curious what it might cost for a Keil Kraft Falcon (revised Ben Shereshaw Cloud Cruiser), with its lovely 96" wing, or a Shereshaw Commodore, with a 72" wing... Can you tell I'm also into old airplanes?

Hey guys. Could we start a new thread about having Semroc laser cutting model airplane parts and I'll merge these messages in to them? I want this thread left strictly as a memorial to Carl.
Thank you!
