Default SLA spacecraft adapter marking cheat

With the larger models of the Saturn 1b and the Saturn V you are faced with the marking of the Spacecraft Lunar Module Adapter petals. These are the panel lines for each of the petals making up the SLA running from the panel locks to the base of the SM. These can be applied after the fact with some success, but there is a means of scribing these lines prior to the assembly of the shroud.

You will need a fine line ball point pen which is pretty well out of ink to use as the scribing tool, or some other device which will leave a smooth indentation in the shroud skin. Prior to marking the shroud cut the "gluing strip" from one end if it is present. You will need to butt join the shroud with strip doubling the joint in order for this to work
Lay the shroud flat on a surface and place a rule connecting the "corners" of the lower circumference.

Find a point equidistant from end to end and mark lightly with a pencil.

Repeat this at the upper circuference (note that this point will be off the part).

Join the two points with a pencil line such that the line spans the part. This will serve as the panel line opposite the glues joint of the shroud.

Repeat the process for each of the remaining halves of the shroud. This will place three pencil lines that are equidistant around the shroud from the joint.

Measure up each line from the base the distance for the placement of the panel locks, or the base of the petals.

Using the pen, with gentle pressure run up the line from the base to the top leaving a clear indentation in the shroud. The objective is to leave a clearly marked line that will either be visible once painted or serve as a guide for striping.

Once assembled you will have four panel lines on the SLA shroud - one that is the seam, three that are marked. To simulate the bottom joint of the panel you can run pieces of masking tape parallel to the base and use that as a marking guide.
