Default How you know you're a big shot

You can go to Ebay, plug in your name, and get a hit.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-3-Sq...5#ht_999wt_1330

But your name has to be Doug Sams.

Yeah, and that Goblin eventually became the Gremlin, I think. I knew something was up when I saw that. Then I saw the seller and it all made sense.

I'm not sure who the seller is, but I'm thinking he's probably a DARS member. This stuff dates back at least 6 years or more. Besides the Goblin/Gremlin, the X-24 became the X-RV. As I recall, there were only a small number of X-24's produced, and I have one, or the remains thereof

[EDIT] D'OH!! Clicking on the seller information link, I see rocket_grandpa is the late James Gartrell, a long time member of DARS. So I assume it's his grandson or widow posting these kits.[/edit]

That's cool Doug. I'm sure that the autograph is what's driving the bidding!

I get lots of hits when entering my name, but none of the products have anything to do with me (or rockets)!

We have some Roger Smith toiletries (from a Roger Smith hotel) on display in our guest bathroom along with a copy of an old TV guide with Roger Smith ("77 Sunset Strip") on the cover. I bought the stuff on eBay.

'Course, there's also the bulb-headed alien that sounds like Paul Lynde ...... Oh, sorry, I gotta go ... someone said Michael Moore is looking for me .....

Pretty sure it was his grandson. I thought I talked with him a while back when he had some other stuff up.
I knew the X-24 became the X-RV, but I'd already hit enter.

I looked for it, but I didn't see an "X" anywhere.

No X. But there's a W followed by some other scribble

I remember, after Don and Terri developed the signature series concept, we met at a DARS meeting. The idea was that, for the kit designs they adopted, the first 100 units of each design would be signed by the designer.

So I sat and practiced for maybe 30 minutes before I began signing the 100 kit cards they had brought. Being an engineer who does almost all his writing via the keyboard, my signature is somewhere between white noise and doctor prescription.

Writing with a permanent marker, there's no eraser to fix mistakes, so I needed to have a rhythm going which would give me a fluid, spaz-free autograph. After a while, I was producing acceptable and consistent signatures, and managed to get thru the stack of face cards with little trouble.
...
Looking at the selling price, 36 bucks for the three kits, it looks like the buyer got a good deal.

Doug
