Default Sell Or Refund?

I just got an order in from Jeffrey Jones (jcjonsey) whom, if I'm not mistaken, has been involved in some past bad dealings in the rocket community.

My first instinct was to issue a refund to the gentleman, I don't want to be involved in whatever he's doing. But then I remembered a post, on TRF I believe, about a vendor that issued a refund rather than deal with what he thought was a problem customer and the talk of boycotts it caused.

So not wanting to anger or offend the larger community, sell the kits or issue the refund?

If I'm wrong about this guy, someone tell me. And my apologies in advance if so.

What DRM said.

It's not like you cottage industry guys are in line for any Federal bailout money when you get stiffed by a bad apple. Look out for yourself.

If a deal smells bad, it usually is. Issue a refund (assuming the check cleared), no explanation needed. We've got your back.

Don,

You are not mistaken, and this is no gentleman.

Anyone wanting to learn about this guy can read about him here , on a Rogues Gallery page put up by Uncle Mike.

After he ran his fraud on ROL, he posted a message on TRF offering to sell a bunch of really collectible kits at surprisingly low prices. He then "sold" the kits to a number of individuals without ever delivering them. I know the U.S. Postal Inspector and Michigan authorities got involved but these cases are extremely difficult to prosecute because the criminal just keeps insisting they mailed out the packages but they never arrived.

What is so weird about this guy is that he seems to have two operations, his eBay one, which has public feedback where he sends what he sells, and his private operation where he doesn't. Since folks caught on to him in the rocketry community my suspicion is that he's moved his fraud racket to other collectibles.

Anyway, Don, I would add one more item to your poll: Take his money, don't send him anything, and send his money on to one of the folks he ripped off.

I believe his alleged (CMA!) problem has been selling stuff, not buying stuff. Is he buying it retail and are you assuming he's going to resell it? If so, and the card is good or the check has cleared, I'd go ahead and ship it with some identifying mark or some sort of neutral feedback card for you to have a chance to track it, JIC he screws somebody over and they complain to you.

It's a Paypal transaction, so I have the money. I can track packages and prove delivery, so no real problem there.

My main concern is having my kits used as bait in some kind of shady deal in the future. Usually, I would have no control over that, but in this case I have someone whose reputation precedes him.

I agree that would be justice, but I am not in a position to do anything like that. I'm afraid I must leave such actions to the professionals.

If he paid for the items I think you're obliged to ship. You can't presume future wrongdoing based on his past, and it's not your job to police this guy anyway. Besides, I've followed the posts here at YORF on him and checked his feedback on recent deals.............and frankly, he seems to be no worse than many other Ebay sellers. Maybe he's trying to clean up his act.

Same here. I don't know the guy, but if he paid then send it. Otherwise you are putting your reputation on the line.

But, I would add, at least mark it someway that you will know he is selling it legitimately or scamming with it.

This is it in a nutshell. I wouldn't want his name mixed up with mine in any way.
