Anybody Else Having Trouble with Rustoleum Spray Paint?
Racing to get ready for the NSL and have a bunch of models to paint. A lot of them use white. I get two cans of Rustoleum from Menards (think "Home Depot" but in the Midwest), and after one use, the nozzle keeps clogging up when I try to use the can again.
Any ideas, suggestions, solutions? This is really frustrating to me!!!!

I have never had that problem with Rust-Oleum, but I ONLY use the original/regular formula stuff.
Is that what you are using or are you using that "2X" stuff ? I used to have that problem with Krylon and the "bargain brands" like that Wal-Mutt 99 cent Color Place crapola. Regular Rust-Oleum is my least used paint, so maybe my sample size is too small. It is my go-to White if I'm using enamel though. I spray a lot more Aero Gloss/Brodak/Sig Dope and Automotive Lacquer and Hardened Auto Enamel. I typically don't re-use too many spray cans either. I usually paint 3-4 mid-sized models or a couple large ones at a time and use up an entire can over the span of a couple hours. Are you inverting the can and spraying it at the end of a session to clear the siphon tube/can valve/nozzle ?

The nozzle problem is an on-going issue with Rustoleum Gloss white (just the plain kind not 2X). I've also had it happen to Rustoleum Orange.
The only cure is to get your hands on extra nozzles. You can buy a bag of 20 for about 5 bucks. I have not been able to get all the way through a can of Rustoleum white since they switched over to these new nozzles. Eventually, changing the nozzle doesn't help and you can only throw the still-partially-full can out. I spoke with their customer service about this last fall and it was clear the guy I was talking to couldn't have cared less. It is really good paint though . . . .

My solution has been to use Valspar lacquers when it comes to gloss white, black, and bright red. It has an added bonus of curing faster than enamel. I haven't bought any paint in a while. I hope it is still available. %$&# EPA.

+1 to the Valspar Lacquer suggestion.
Rust-Oleum Lacquer in spray cans is very good too. I prefer Lacquer/Dope to virtually all enamels. It takes many more coats for good coverage, but it lays down very smooth with almost zero orange-peel. It dries 10 times faster than enamel and never plugs nozzles. Just don't expect 2 coats to do the job. It's more like 5 coats, but 5 coats of Lacquer is completely dry in less than half the time of 2 coats of non-catalyzed spray-bomb enamel.

My anecdotal experience is that the problems I've had with Rusto Gloss White tend to occur more often with new cans, and that I can get good results out of a can and nozzle that have previously misbehaved on me. I don't have a foolproof answer but shaking well helps, waiting some time — maybe hours or a day, maybe less, not too sure what the minimum is — after shaking helps even more, spraying off-model helps (sometimes the spray goes from bad to good, and at the very least if you start off-model you'll find out there's a problem before the model gets trashed). Maybe spraying upside down helps? When it's good it's very, very good, and it's readily and cheaply available, so I keep using it.

I don't remember; it was either Lowes on-line, or eBay, or Amazon. I'm pretty sure it was Lowes. For a while, my local Lowes was stocking them in bags of five but I haven't seen them in about a year.

I checked and both Amazon and eBay have replacement nozzles. You are looking for female cap replacement nozzles.

Rustoleum will send you a bag of replacement nozzles if you call and explain the problem.
