So it should be smoother than this?

Same nose cone, by the way. Found this earlier photo on a build post on The Book of Faces.

I was at Menards the other day and did a little tub-peeking. I think I got the wrong stuff the first time around. The 'stainable' is chunky while the regular is smooth.

Yep... avoid the "stainable" stuff...

It goes on like concrete with gravel sticking out... and is just about as easy to sand... LOL

Best of luck! OL JR

I was thinking of a way with a little less mess.

I cut the shoulder completely off one nose cone and glued a balsa adapter to the flattened surface then adding a few small screws. I haven't had any issues yet.

This was chippd up far enough that I'm not sure what tubing size it would be good for if I just sawed off the end.

Repair is progressing. Thanks for the tips.

I didn't look closely at the pic, I thought you were talking about just damage to the shoulder , not damage extending from the shoulder forward.

I knew what he meant as soon as he said "lawn dart".

Ask me how I know that.

What you've done so far looks really good.
Just keep at it until you're satisfied.

Prime the heck out of the repaired area then paint.

Bob's your uncle.

Not perfect - but good enough for viewing from pad distances.

I'm calling it done until I figure out what to build underneath it.

Thanks for the tips, folks.
