A most respectable idea!
I would have to replace the decals for the upper half of the BT which are white in this scheme, but I may have a solution for that and this would give me a chance to try it out.

As for pictures, here's one of the current rocket after landing. It is the only pic I have of my BB at the time.

Nice Mark B! I have a Big Bertha still "in-the-bag" awaiting its' turn to be built. I also have a Baby Bertha "in-the-bag" that I will use to convert to a clone of the Astron Ranger 3 engine cluster classic. Your build thread will certainly inspire me.......

Default NARAM 56 Bertha's

The first four models on the left from NARAM 56 belong to me and my family.

If I missed your Bertha in culling through the archives, I apologize. Post your pictures.

The Estes plan of the month in Picture 1 is interesting because the recommended engines are B-4-2s and B-6-4s. I thought the designations for those engines in 1964 were B-.8-2 and B-.8-4. Comments?

Huh, hadn't noticed that. That page is from Model Rocket News Vol. 3 No. 2 as posted at JimZ. Could it be a reissue? JimZ also has "The Best from Volumes 1 and 2" which clearly is a reissue, with the notice "The rocket plans and technical report in this booklet are the current revised versions; all other articles are reprinted as they originally appeared" — but the rocket plans contain English designations. However maybe Vol. 3 was reissued after the designation change, and with the plans correspondingly updated. I notice JimZ has Vol. 3 No. 1 with English designations throughout, except in the one plan where metric designation is used. At oldrocketplans they have Vol. 3 Nose. 3 and 4, with English throughout.

The Model Rocket News-es up to 1969 were collected in a three-volume set. I managed to get one of these around 1975. Some of the "scans" I've seen come from this set, which had revisions

Others are of the original newsletters.

I remember being frustrated, reading those books forty years ago, that I couldn't build many of the models because the BT-40 and associated parts weren't available.

1) let it go and just fly it as is since it hasn't affected any fights?
2) use a coupler and 2" of BT-60 to bring it up to standard?
3) drink a few beers in memory of the building session?

The only time it's really noticeable is when it stands next to the Ranger I cloned. I could keep them on opposite sides of the shelf and I'm sure no one would notice, but for some OCD reason it just grates on my nerves.

No brainer: #3. It involves ethyl alcohol.

Great thread!

In late 2012 I did this "Battle Bertha" for a request. All of the decorations are colored Monokote adhesive film.

...but my personal favorite BB is, and probably always will be, the Ranger-ish scheme. This is the last one I did. The yellow and white parts are paint. The black stripes are Monokote adhesive film. "The Vixen" painted the black fin by hand.

This is a great thread. Thanks MarkB for including my BB rocket which is a BB and a Ranger top combined renamed Large Marge. The JJ rocket pic with the "Singer" auto decal, who built that one?
