OHKA “BAKA Bomb”
I’m not sure what the correct spelling is for this rocket powered Japanese flying bomb but I’ve been- wanting to make one for some time now. The illustration below shows what I am talking about. One photo shows the inner structure of the fuselage. I will strip plank the fuselage with balsa while all the wing will be sheeting foam. Its scale is only 1/10 so it’s not a big model at only 23.7” long. I predict the flying weight as a glider will be around 6 ounces and I don’t believe I will stick a rocket motor in it. So although this technically won’t be a rocket power model it will be pretty cool when it’s done, so I wanted to share it with you. The reason for its small size is because the Betty Bomber the BAKA will be dropped from is FREAKING large at 1/10 scale. One image shows the BAKA fuselage next to the Betty Bomber being framed up. If you not familiar either of these subjects I’ve include a picture of a plastic display showing both.
There is a build thread over at RCGroups.com and I can share the link if anyone is interested in seeing the models being built. John Boren |

Yes, John, the link would be great.

I would have to set it up for an 18mm D2.3.
You could always fly it as an unpowered model, even then.

Link to Build.
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/sho...-24-Betty-Build I did not know Aerotech had a 18mm long burn D3 motor. I use their C3 motor in my RC Rocket Glider. John Boren |

"Ohka" and "BAKA" are the correct spellings for this thing.
The ONLY correct name however is BAKA, which translates to "Idiot" and "Stupid Fool" in Japanese. Be a steely-eyed rocket man and power it with an 18mm D10 instead of a wimpy D2.3. That way it will be "hard to handle" in a scale-like manner just like a real rocket-plane. Better yet would be an 18mm D21/D24.

Yup, if you can handle the weight and CG shift, the 18mm d2.3 is a nice motor for airstarts, I think it weighed about 1 oz loaded in the standard 18mm case with a jb plugged forward closure, 8 second burn I think. However looking at the top view, your wing is pretty far forward, so it might take quite a bit to compensate for the tail weight and then cg shift might be a bit more than desired...plus you need to carry ignition battery/igniter for air start...might start to get heavy.

Even a BRICK with "fly" provided you have enough thrust.
You need to make this thing powered. Really.

Fuselage is now planked. I need to do a final sanding to make it smooth.

BAKA fuselage sanded. I will need to use some light weight filler in a few areas to fill in a few areas.
