Brodak (Randolph) finishing products ROCK.
Every bit as good as vintage Pactra Aero Gloss.

I finished applying the star decals using Testors decal solutions with good results. I took some up close pictures of the balsa fins treated with just 4 coats of Brodak sealer, no grain to be seen and no other fillers used. I just ordered a 16oz can of the balsa sealer, has anyone else ordered any?

On the strength of this discussion I just ordered a pint can as well (and a few tool bits to help justify the shipping). I forgot to order thinner, though..... doh!

I purchase my Brodak products at the LHS within 10 minutes of my work location which works great...no need to wait for orders.

Sadly there is no LHS within 10 minutes of me. The closest of any sort is more like 30 minutes away, and it's a Hobbytown USA. I will have to recheck and see if they have any Brodak stuff (but I don't believe they do).

There once was a true LHS 15 minutes or so from here and they did stock Brodak and Sig dopes (and other things) but it is now gone for years......

Meanwhile, I hope to get close to scigs30's results when I do get my hands on some of this stuff. Four coats of fast drying sanding sealer to get to that level of sealing/filling will be wonderful compared to what I've been doing since being BAR'd.

Scigs - those fillets are outstanding. I really have tried over the years for that quality but I always get pinholes.

Is the thinner required to use the Brodak - or is it just used for cleanup ?

Thinner: for me the first use is brush cleaning. But since I ordered a pint I expect it'll take me a couple of years to go through the whole can based on the rate of consumption of Varathane sanding sealer that I've been using, I may need the thinner later to keep the sealer at the right consistency over time.

Between an email to and a call with Brodak, I now have thinner added to the order.

I just looked at the Hobbytown I mentioned earlier - no dope products of any kind. LOTS of different kinds of paints, but no dope.

I only use the thinner to clean my brush, I'm almost done with my first jar of sealer and have found no need to thin. For my fillets, regular white glue smoothed with my finger and takes two applications.

Talk to the owner of the HobbyTown USA and ask them to carry the Brodak products. If they're able to get them, they'll usually try to carry them. I recently bought the last two jars of AeroGloss from my HTUSA so I haven't bought any Brodak... Yet. But I will soon and I intend to try to get it through my HTUSA.
