The Saros looks like a good candidate for re-release.

I believe a A10 will fly the mini Scissor Wing plenty high for nice long flights and I might just get it back. Besides I don't believe they would allow none certified Centuri motors to be flown at NSL.
Lets try and post some images of what you are bringing along since a picture is worth a thousand words. I'm trying to decide what I should build next for NSL. John Boren |

Bernard, I didn't know about the Sierra Blance Challenge. I'll have to read up on all the planned activities. I have a Star Orbiter in primer, maybe I should build another. I have a number of Estes E16 s and F15s but have not fired any, and concerned about reported CATOs on these, as well as the E12s. Hope it is just limited to older batches? My V-2 picture above has fins cut down to scale. It flies great, I added 1 oz. of nose weight. I cut 1/2" off the outer edge. Close enough. I looked at the fins for my Maxi V-2 and used that as a guide for scaling. I'm driving down with a friend. Looking forward to meeting you, John Boren, and others.

I've flown a bunch of E16s and F15s and was very happy with them until I wasn't. I started flying them actually at NSL 2013. I'm hoping that the F15-8s I've gotten for this purpose will be OK. I buy them one pack at a time with the 40% off coupons at Hobby Lobby. My previous Star Orbiter, which was modded to make the top six inches a payload compartment with a coupler and a ply bulkhead, pretty repeatably went to 1500 feet on an F15-8 with an AltimeterThree and a Jolly Logic Chute Release aboard. This was from a launch site near sea level. Since I expect it go higher by about 15% when flown from Alamogordo I wouldn't be surprised if I fly it seven times on F15s and then have to put a 24/29 adapter in it to make the eighth flight on a C11. Or maybe I'll have to do the seventh on an E.
I've had two E12s and two E9s fail in maybe six years of flying. But since two of them (one of each) was within a short time of the E16 failure I am a little more touchy about it now than I used to be seeing as I'm building a new Star Orbiter and a new 24mm motor mount Big Bertha after the prior ones were blown apart by CATOs. My Mega Mosquito wasn't too badly damaged by its explosive experience so I didn't have to do much to it to get it successfully flown. I always seem to have these failures on cold days. I'm not expecting it to be cold in late May in Alamogordo..... Sierra Blanca and Centennial challenge info here: http://www.nar.org/site/nsl2017/special-events/

The Sierra Blanca challenge sounds very cool. I love the idea of flying the same rocket multiple times to hit a cumulative altitude. I might use this type of event for my local club.

Pictures guys!
Ask and you shall receive. 1) Three Big Berthas; my scratch build in the center and my sons' 60's-era rescues 2) My unflown Maxi V-2 set up for 24 mm composite. I've never flown one. And my son's K-22 rescue. 3) Aries (still with masking tape in certain areas for the incomplete paint work), Hermes A-1 and my old reliable Estes V-2 with "scale" fins that was part of the V-2 mass launch at NSL 2010. I might take some others. My theory is to fly rockets with a connection to White Sands. I have a Lance and a small Patriot that I might bring. If you like you could bring Arcas, Aerobee, Little Joe II, Honest John or darn near any Nike, all totally acceptable.

Nice looking models. Something tells me they might not have enough pads to fly all the V2's in just one mass launch.

I'd like to see a re-issue of the Saros.
That way the mid-80's Estes Nomad could be cloned. Without the Saros plastic cone, adapter, and nozzle it is not possible. Looking forward to the pics from this launch. The mass-V2 launch at NSL should be really spectacular. I'd like to attend one of these if it is close to my home state, but they always seem to be too far away.
