4. YORF caters to older folks that were into rocketry in the 60's - 80's mostly. There won't be much new blood to increase membership and post count. Those who were only involved in rocketry since the 2000 or even the 90's will tend to hang out at TRF.

6. See #4 above. We are old. Members have health issues, and even pass away. I imagine we had a boost in posting during those months that Mike Dorffler was posting. Carl and Sheryl made a huge impact on the forum, both in posting content, and with our excitement over SEMROC's rebirth and expansion.

The trend is the same on the RC forums as well. RC Universe is just about dead.

Given the popularity of drones with the kids nowadays, this surprises me.

I never see kids with drones. Only adults...some who act like kids.

Kids don't do much of anything except:

1 Playstation
2 Xbox
3 Snapchat
4 Twitter
5 Instagram
6 Computer games
7 Porn

And the ones that do go outside...it's just for Travel Baseball because "its a feeder program for MLB".

In the 147 years of Major League baseball, there have only been 19,000 MLB players. That's an average of 129 per year coming from all over the world, yet nearly every parent I deal with thinks their kid has the talent to go pro.

1. We have had the same basic group of posting members from day one and we've covered about all there is to cover about old rockets without new folks coming in to ask questions.

2. Certain members have been banned, ex. JD, who brought folks like PO out of the woodwork and drove post counts up.

3. TRF has calmed down a little so folks aren't coming over here to bitch about it.

7. Political stuff from just four or five members' rants have turned folks off to YORF.

8. TRF is bigger. Some folks love attention, the more the better. Even if they have membership at both places, they hang out over there for more attention. Especially those chosen few who get to say what they want when the rest of us get censored and scolded.

9. HPR. While it can be discussed here, it isn't in YORF's strike zone.

10. EX. See HPR.

11. No more Barry Tunick to ruin Estes (in us old folk's eyes).

12. We won the BATFE lawsuit.

13. Launch magazine came and went and has been gone long enough that it doesn't stir up much emotion here anymore.

That is an extremely comprehensive and well-thought-out explanation for what is going on here at YORF. My compliments.

14. The original Semroc owned by the McLawhorn family drew a lot of users here and had an active role in many interesting topics. Semroc had a SAM (Semroc Astronautic Modeler) Team which partnered with YORF for its forum provider. Carl used YORF as its sounding board to bounce new ideas off of with a core group of people in a closed group called SVDT, Semroc Virtual Design Team. Carl also posted all of the new Semroc releases to YORF first. While it's nice that Randy Boadway bought Semroc and is continuing to produce those kits, Randy is no Carl McLawhorn. None of those teams, traditions, ideas have continued with the new owner.

I miss Carl....

I had some down time at lunch waiting for a guy to show up and buy one of my old tractors.

Default Grinding to a halt

Thank you Scott and Dean. Carl loved the old designs and like most "oldsters" wanted to bring them back. It was a wild, hectic ride but I wouldn't have traded it for something "smoother". We were able to work together for his last 12 years 24/7 together, that was worth it all.

Sheryl
