Hi Vern and Gleda. Are those Estes trucks on the road related to you?

The impact you have had on USA youth cannot be overstated. Thank you. I tried to help a little.

Jerry -- I did a Google search for Estes Express trucking. It was founded by W. W. Estes in 1931 ( I was 1 year old). In looking at their 85th anniversary video I noticed something interesting. The portrait of the founder shows a close resemblance to my father and especially to his older brother Jim. That caused me to speculate that my grandfather, Franklin Estes, might be the brother of the father of the founder of the Estes trucking company. Perhaps a connection dating back to the mid-late 1800's.

After passing an Estes truck on the interstate, I earlier ruled out the possibility of Estes Trucking being started by an enthusiastic Estes Rocketeer. There were no thrusters on the rear, and the hood was not shaped like a Big Bertha nose cone. -- Vern

Vern,

Thank you for your contributions to this great hobby. Model rocketry brought me a lot of joy in my youth and helped inspire me to become an engineer and USAF officer.

I'll add on my birthday wishes, and thanks for me and the hobby in general. No other hobby (I've had a number) has fueled my imagination like this one, and it all originated with Estes rockets in the 70's and those glorious catalogs, which I read... I dunno, about a billion times each.

Even though I love seeing the diversity of rocket vendors out there now, for me Estes is still synonymous with model rocketry.
