I've now assembled the armature of the first fin using Titebond Red for the adhesive.

DANG! This is so easy, it's probably illegal!

....and in no time at all, all (4) of the raw armatures are assembled!

Shaping then will be a different story!

As the Titebond continues to cure on the armatures, I'll prepare the fin skins.

The fin skins are printed on .012" cardstock that's polished on both sides. I first make a copy of the sheets onto cardstock of the same thickness--just in case I have an accident.

Now for some technique:
Using a fresh #11 blade I cut out HALF of the skin for one fin. I then use the rounded tip of one of "The Vixen's" nail files and start the crease in the skin. I then fold and crease tightly the cut half over the uncut half.

Using the cut half as a fence, I cut the other half. This way I know the (2) sides of the skin are mirror images of each other.

One down, three to go.

Now for some scraping.

Using my Corian slab that's covered with 220, I scrape alternating sides of the armature--test fitting the fin skin often--until the correct fit is achieved.

Time for some Scotch. Good night.

The grain direction on these looks a little odd to me.

The grain direction makes sense to me, actually. The mounting tab that’s inserted into the BT slot is with the grain. As evidenced by the photo in post #20.

That was my thought exactly, then concluded like jeffyjeep that they were going for the tab strength...still if the grain had been parallel to the leading edge of the main fin slab, the tabs wouldn't be totally "snappable"... be curious to know if Estes tried different orientations, and chose this one, because I have had to make similar decisions laying out built-up fins on a sheet of balsa.

Now to skin the fins.

I'll again use Aleene's Super Tacky for this so I don't have a card stock soak-through. Although the instructions say to put it on the card stock I apply the heavy goop to the entire perimeter of the armature. This way I'll be registering the skin to the armature and not the other way around.

The contour of the skin aligns perfectly to the armature's root edge, compound trailing edge, and leading edge. The skin's outer edge overlaps the outer edge and I'll trim it later.

I skin one side at a time, press the assembly flat on my work surface, then apply the adhesive to the other side of the armature, and press the assembly flat on my work surface again,.....

.....and voila! One down, three to go.
