Mine has flown great right from the start. Big wide circle, nice smooth glide.
Craig (foose), Scott and I had a drag race at NARAM that was fun. I think Craig has a good picture.

Bob, great looking Fake Wulf! Your Der Red Wulf looks great too, Craig.
I bought a set of the Red Wulf decals from Scott but (shockingly) I haven't gotten back to fixing my Fake Wulf since one of my fellow club members broke one of the wing tips off, well over a year ago now. Yours, Scott's, and Tony's Fake Wulfs looked great at NARAM, too, not surprisingly.

Thank you John. I just wish I could get that one to glide. At least I get it back each time.

Are these Fake Wulf kits still available?
You all anyone has to do is post a picture of something done up in Der Red Max style and I'm all over it!

I found the drag race pic. I'm on the left, I believe Tony's in the middle and Scott's on the right. I can't seem to find any static pics of FW #3, but I thought for sure I had one or two. Quote:
O1d dude, keep an eye out on Ebay. He lists them on there from time to time. Best bet might be to shoot him a PM. He's on here as rokitflite. He only does a few small batches at a time, so you just have to be patient until the next batch rolls around, but it's worth the wait. Oh, and snag the opportunity when it arises, you'll kick yourself later if you don't. |

Wow, that is not a quick response question Gus... I went downstairs to try to find the earliest model I designed that had a hint of Fake Wulf to it, but alas, the model, built in the mid 80s did not survive the house cleaning fest of 2000. It looked KINDA like a BT-55 F-86 Saber with a long BT-20 pop-pod coming out of the front (similar to the Wulf). The long weighted pod would be ejected off of the front, the motor would remain in the rear and SUPPOSEDLY the glider would glide back to earth... It never worked. The burnt out engine casing would make the glider too tail heavy for a nice glide. From that point on I tried to figure out ways to eject both a long nose pod AND the motor from the rear. The result was the pod you see in the Fake Wulf, which AS FAR AS I KNOW the first model to ever use this type of pod ejection technique. As far as aesthetic design, you can thank the Estes Nighthawk, the Centuri Mach-10, a Micro Maxx Zoomie-like boost glider I was working on for Bill several years ago AND the German plane from the first Indiana Jones movie. I LOVE the whole German "X" plane theme so I tried to make it believable as well See attached picture. I also wanted it to be easy to prep. The baffle system helps to both protect the chute AND keeps a bunch of residue from building up on the inside of the glider body. I always hated the Scissor Wing because after each flight the pod did not slide into the body tube easily until all of the exhaust crap was scrubbed out or the rings were sanded down. As far as the overall assembly, I am a VERY lazy kit builder now that I am older. If I buy a kit and start to put it together and I come across anything that interrupts the assembly of the kit, I probably won't finish it... Nose cone too tight, bad quality wood, centering rings either way oversized or way undersized even poor/unclear instructions will ruin the building experience for me. If I have to work above and beyond the basics to put a kit together, I would rather scratch build something. My own personal pet peeves go into the design of my kits... I don't want to make the builder do anything I hate to do! So... Once I decided to make this into a kit, I would guess that it was about 8 months til it got bagged and sent out. I am very glad you guys are liking it... THANKS! -Scott |
