Default Why Pay More For A Video Rocket???

Darn you Ebay! After my recent search for one of those little video pen cams, I found this little gem from China:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Mini-Spy-Gum-Hi...=item2a01360f75

$20 and 10 days later it arrived at my doorstep. Too cool. After throwing in an old 2GB micro SD card from my phone I started playing. The test videos were pretty darn good and the images were bright clear and not jittery. Next, I had to make a booster for it...

Looking forward to hearing how it works in your booster.....

How is the SD card oriented? Does it increase width or length? In other words, what is the smallest diameter rocket for the booster?

It's a microSD card, so it ought not affect the external dimensions much, if at all (I would suspect...). They're usually internally stored and can be flush with the outside of the device.

By the way, this looks extremely cool. If it works out for you I might just have to get one (or two... stereo?).

Since the face of the camera was flat, and I wanted to make it easily removable, I had to make a holder that would accomodate the camera so that the flat face of the camera body was outside of the rocket. If I had tried to put the thing inside of a BT-50 the lense would be too far away from the mirror hood which would have had to be very large. I chose to go the "carve out of wood" route. I started by building a box out of 1/32" basswood to hold the camera and mirror hood, then built up a smattering of balsa around it. It was built to fit on a BT-50 so I used a BT-50 nose block for a shoulder..

Next, I made a mess on my deck sanding all of the balsa down to resemble a nose cone of sorts.

Interesting. It might be a viable option instead of downlink when I rebuild my Cineroc clone.

More sanding, then I coated the whole thing with thin CA (no pictures of that because I was blinded by the fumes ). Then I applied two coats of Plastikote primer, sanding between coats...

Scott,

Your work is entirely too neat and well crafted. You're making the rest of us look bad. What's wrong with doing something cheap and ugly, like this? Doug
