If I am reading the numbers correctly, the engine nozzle is recessed in the main tube about 2.25". That seems a bit much to me, not to mention the attachment cord for the main PK-12 is directly in harms way of the fire. Something tells me the pilot ain't coming back from this one, not that he did in real life anyway.
I noticed that JimZ's site says it is plan #70, but on the instruction sheet it is actually plan #72. Don't mind me, just being nit-picky. |

FYI - "Baka" is Japanese for "Stupid Person". "Idiot" or "Moron" would probably be the nearest English equivalent.

I had read "fool" as the translation in some reference photos. The official name, IIRC, was something like "Cherry Blossom"...

If my math is correct: BT60D= 11" BT20B=8 5/8" engine extends out 3/4" (+ 8 5/8"=9 3/8") Nose cone shoulder is 5/8" (= 9 3/8"=10") That would make the engine recessed 1", (the drawing does make it look like more) the 1 1/8" on the plans could be 1 7/8", but it seems to match all the other 1's. I can't disagree on the shroud line attachment, a good spot for kevlar. And yes, the plan is numbered wrong (I never noticed that!)

I suspect Baka came from the Allies (and maybe some of the designated pilots). Doug .

More thoughts on the Japanese Baka design - Estes plan #72
I created this thread to divert the off-topic discussion from here and place it in its own thread. The discussion concerns the design for a model of the Japanese Baka that was published in Vol. 10, No. 3 of the Estes Model Rocket News.
Just about that entire thread through post #25 is taken up with the OT discussion, so I'm not going to bother providing links to the relevant irrelevant posts from there.
