Ah, skip all that and just drop the dime on him Then, after he's been bounced, offer him 5 bucks for the motors

There was relief that the $4.99 versions were brand new motors as provided by the new Estes owner Hobbico.

There are those you can train, and then there are those whose self-absorption limits the wider view.

It is so tempting to "drop the dime" on this guy. Here's an interesting way to date 'em even if the date codes aren't clear (and they are clear enough to me in the images): http://www.freepatentsonline.com/5509354.html

Mike Dorffler's patent on the igniter plugs - filed in March of 1994 and granted in 1996......I kinda doubt Estes would have been selling motors with igniter plugs in the package much before the patent was applied for, if any.

I'm glad Rich has some of these still....

Prior to that you used masking tape or a small ball of wadding jammed in the nozzle to hold the igniter in place.

And the igniters were a long piece of nichrome with little dabs of pyrogen down the length. You cut them from the wire and bent at the pyrogen to make igniters.

The 1992 catalog contains the earliest mention of igniter plugs I can find. That kinda supports your statement above.

I've been two more rounds with that seller. He still insists that A10-0Ts were discontinued in the 1970s and that those he is selling date back that far. I just sent him a link to the 1998 catalog on Ninfinger...which lists them.

He also claims that this is newly made stock: http://hobby1.com/store/product/167...-BOOSTER-STAGE/. I figure it's just like the ones that guy has, or that Rich has - stuff from the 1990s.

I'm not going to waste any more energy on this.....but I'm still tempted to "drop the dime" as has been suggested. Very tempted indeed.

Interesting twist: this guy just wrote back to me and decided that I was right and he was wrong about the vintage of the motors and when they were discontinued.

It appears he's modified the descriptions in at least some of the several auctions to reflect that. There's still quite a bit of embellishment, but at least the basic details are a little more accurate. He still wants his collector prices but I suppose that's the "what the market will bear" side of eBay, no?

He even thanked me for being patient with him about it......and at least one of my exchanges with him wasn't particularly so. Interesting indeed.
