I'm very curious as to what version of the Astro-1 included that name decal that's on the JimZ site.
None of the catalog models ever displayed that decal (as far as I can remember).

OK, that's a head scratcher!

I've searched my picture archive and only found this one.

In 1983 I built this fleet for a distributor of Centuri, Estes and others in Germany.

As you can see, these Astro-1 versions had the name as decals as well.

I tried to scan real close-up but I just can't make out how the letters appear.

If you have the negative, try a larger print (at least 20cm x 25cm) from the negative. Hopefully, the photo was shot on low speed film so the grain doesn't become too much of a problem. Those models are nicely done.

Excellent, perfect. Exactly what I was looking for

Now I know my decal is correct and I can now apply it to the rocket.

Thank you.

Great! I'll change the file so my decals match.

\Thanks but actually nobody has ever asked me for a SEMROC decal (not yet anyway).

Since it's only 2 tiny changes to make it will be easier to adjust mine.

Does anyone have a decal or scan of the decal from the 1969 catalog version of the kit? I'm thinking it would be easier to reconstruct the geometry from flat than from photos of the face card where the roll pattern is wrapped around the tube. Want to get the proportions of the orange/white/black boxes and stripes right.

The Astro 1 never came with a ‘decal’ that looked like the color combination as displayed in the 1969 catalog. For a good portion of its life, the Astro 1 came with an either solid black or solid red #10 Centuri roll pattern like one of the roll patterns off their #10 roll pattern sheet decal. It was not until the latter 70s, maybe even VERY late 70s that the ‘Astro 1’ text was added to the decal. But off the top of my head, most of the roll patterns used in this kit from that #10 roll pattern variety sheet were the pattern that is displayed on Leo’s models in his post above.

I’m not by my main computer which contains my Centuri kit scan, but sometime later tonight I’ll post the Astro 1 decal scans I have.

Earl

I've been digging on the number of cycles of the upper pattern for the 1969 scheme. Chris Michielssen contemplated that he may have gotten it wrong with four instead of five cycles. I think that's correct, based on the finished photos of his and another build that followed his lead. With the #10 decal having five cycles, it seems highly likely.

It also just occurred to me that there might only be the one orange stripe, since the model is always shown from the same angle in the catalog and on face cards. The other side of the rocket would have to have a launch lug where another stripe or two would go.

Does anyone have an original build, instruction sheet, or other documentation of Centuri's intent for the 1969 version?
