With the posting of "Lil' Leaguer" we reached our immediate goal of having 800 designs in our catalog. It took a while to get the last hundred, longer than I thought it would. Now we can look forward to our next set of goals.

We still have the issue of getting a website revision, where all of these designs can be found and the plans downloaded easily. I've tried various methods of cobbling a set of pages together, but the scope of the work is far larger than what a few pages of PHP can do. We're talking MySQL database programming here. I haven't given up, I've just dropped back to get a better perspective of how to proceed.

A second goal is a PDF catalog, using the RockSim 3D imagery as the illustrations. Again, not a simple project, but certainly easier than a website.

Reaching the 900- and then the 1000-model-count mileposts will be major goals. How many designs did Estes produce in the fifty-year span from 1960 to 2010? I haven't taken a full count, but even the 2009 Extended Kit List has fewer than 900 entries, and some of those are duplicates. Reaching 900 will give us more designs than Estes even after subtracting the obvious upscales and downscales.

This audit of the catalog has uncovered quite a few previously-missed designs. As I go through the list with the proverbial fine-toothed-comb, I have located entries for 856 models. That's 43 more than was previously recognized. Some of these are revisions of previous designs, but with enough changes to justify calling them a 'new' design.

If links to plan files can be created for all of these designs, then our 'magic number' for achieving 900 is down to 44. I think we can reach that goal before August.

The deeper I dig, the more designs keep popping their heads up from the depths. I now have entries for 867 designs, only a few of which look like they may be duplicates or updated originals.

If this count holds, then our 'magic number' drops to 33...

"You might be a redneck if... you cut the grass and find a car lot..."

It was really getting time to cut the grass around here. I've been locating a bunch of models hiding in the tall grass here in BARCLONELAND. The list count has jumped up to 881 designs, most of which had valid links to RKT files and JPG images. There may be a small handful that get removed in the end, but far, far less than I thought there would be.

If this running total holds, then the 'magic number' has dropped to 19...

Can we reach 900 by the end of March? Earlier?

How long does anyone think it will be before we reach 1000? :eek:
