Mini-Scale Combo Pak measurements?

Hello All,

Does anyone here have any measurements of the Estes Mini Scale Combo kit #0874 (it contains an Exocet and an IQSY Tomahawk, see: http://www.spacemodeling.org/jimz/est0874.htm )? Their fin dimensions (and/or fin sheet dimensions) are not given; nor are the dimensions of their cut-out paper shock cord slot covers, which are glued onto the rockets' body tubes. Also:

Given these dimensions (with even just one fin dimension for each rocket--say, their fin root chords), both rockets could easily be replicated, as their body tube lengths *are* given, in the kit instructions. (I know that ASP makes a similar IQSY Tomahawk kit, but the fiber-finned Estes version is simpler.)

Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Hey J, I have one of these kits, but I will have to dig the kit out. It is with other kits that I want to look thru, that are in a stack of boxes . will do this on Saturday, if you can wait will send you a scan of the fins. Neal

I have the fins. I'll scan them and post them here later this evening.

I thank you both very much for this, not only for myself, but also for others who could also build these simple "entry level" Sport Scale models! Also:

If either or both of you have the kit instructions, a scan of just the first page (as a PDF or with a ruler to indicate the scale) would establish the sizes of the cut-out paper shock cord anchors, which differ from the standard "tri-fold" Estes one. Also, if you'd share these scans with Scott, he could put them in the "Ye Olde Rocket Plans" archive. The nice thing about both of these kits is that even though the IQSY Tomahawk came with decals, they could easily be replicated with masking & painting alone, and the Exocet used masking exclusively for its two-color decor scheme. These would make nice first scale kits.

Here are the fin patterns. I'll check to see if I can find the instructions.

Great--Thank You! Are the IQSY Tomahawk fins also in that PDF along with the Exocet fins? I don't see them, but depending on their fiber fin sheet's position with respect to the scanner's light source, their outlines might not have showed up. The ruler (which looked like a black line on the screen) printed out very well and is quite legible. Also:

I've been helping a model rocket program at the school in the small, isolated town of Eagle, Alaska. In addition to getting Semroc-made parts for a couple of these kits made for myself, I figured that these would also be good kits for their school program, since they fly well even on the lower-impulse (and cheaper) mini motors, including the 1/4A3-3T. Since the school only has 21 students, putting together a "care package" of 24 pairs of these combo kits and motors for them is something even I can afford. :-)

That's odd - the pdf file looks fine on my screen. Both sets of fins are on the same card and look fine. The ruler looks good too...

I've got the fins, the original fins...

For my trident builds, I needed nosecones, so I bought a couple of these just for them. I still have the fins, punched out, but unused.

Interested? PM me.

[ADDENDUM: both sets of fins (the small clipped-delta ones and the long-chord, swept trailing edge clipped-delta fins) that are on that sheet are the Exocet's fins, as the missle has long-chord delta wings and small, clipped-delta tail fins.] From the layout, it looks like the IQSY Tomahawk fin set should be to the right of the Exocet fins, but that area is just blank white on my print-out as well as on the screen. I can even make out the printing on the ruler, even though it's dark: "Compliments of Fairgate Rule Company, Cold Springs, NY 10516," etc. (in all caps).

I see the same thing as blackshire, no detail to the right of the Exocet fins... the rest is clear as day
