Porch Pirates

Porch Pirates.

I think I got hit yesterday.
I live in a boarding house and the post person just drops the boxes on the porch without notifying the managers.
I was looking forward to getting this rocket.
BTW, I just got a package/letter today. It was mailed out on December 17, 2020. from Indiana.
Really?

22 days to send a 6 by 6 padded envelope!

Ridiculous!

What was the kit that the PP’s stole?

If the parcel has a tracking #, see it it says delivered.
If it does and you didn't get it then notify the PO and the vendor.
If the vendor sent it insured, or if you paid to have it insured, then either you or the vendor will get reimbursement for the value of the parcel. If the vendor gets the reimbursement he can send you a replacement kit.
Check with the manager of your boarding house about the possibility of a locked drop box for parcels from the postman. Should be easy enough to make by the maintenance guy.
On the 22 day delivery for the other parcel click on product information in the tracking notice.
What is the service rate? Media mail is cheapest but also the slowest. Used for bulk mailings of magazines, newspapers, cds, books, etc. 2 to 3 weeks delivery is not uncommon. Same with Parcel Select. Especially on the tail end of the Xmas crunch.

What BARGeezer said.
Mail theft has become a big problem around here - several years ago the neighbors got together and we invested in a locking mailbox - IIRC it was about $50 each plus some donated labor to install it.

I sent my nephew in Denver his Christmas present via Priority Mail. Tracking said it arrived in Denver Dec. 21, but it didn't get delivered until after Christmas
I got a Christmas card from my sister in Colorado yesterday - postmarked Dec. 12

Slow mail service is the reason I stopped selling on eBay. Buyers start to pester you for the shipment, but when it's in the hands of the post office there's little you can do. Some unscrupulous savvy buyers will even approach eBay to force a refund, then keep the shipment anyway when it arrives.

I’m an eBay seller and over the months I’ve learned what shipper to use according to where it’s going in the US. If it’s going east of Chicago: FedEx or UPS but NOT USPS. If it’s going west of Chicago (except to CA or AZ) then USPS is usually OK.

Looks like I was half right/half wrong. The managers delivered it to the wrong floor.
I just got a note delivered stating they goofed and brought my package to the second floor instead of the third floor.
It got returned to the managers yesterday afternoon.

BTW, It's a Semroc Mars Lander.

I ran into the work of porch pirates last week.

On my pre-dawn dog walk, I found on a path back of my townhouse complex two ripped-open boxes. The contents, or most of them, were still there!

I piled the gifts back into the boxes -- hopefully the right ones -- and put them on the porches of the townhouses they were supposed to go to.
