Parachute Shroud Line De-Tangler

This 3D model is based on an idea from Bill Alewine that was published in the June/July issue of, "Model Rocket News" on page five.

This button is design to help reduce or eliminate parachute shroud line tangling. There are two versions - a six hole and an eight hole.

Each button is 1 inch (25.4mm) in diameter with each of the holes having a 3.5mm diameter. You should be able to upscale or downscale these STL models to suit your needs.

You can download it for free from Thingiverse and print it out on your 3D printer.

You might be able to use this to slow down parachute deployment similar to sliders that are used on skydiving ram-air parachutes to reduce or eliminate the zippering of airframe tubes. See the video to show how it works.

The link generates a 404 error.

Thingiverse has been having issues lately. The 404 error message mostly occurs with the Zip file that contains all of the files. There is a work-around.

Under the picture, you will see a series of boxes labeled "Thing Details" "Thing Files" "Comments" "Makes" "Remixes" and "Apps". Click on the "Thing Files" box.

You will now see a listing of each individual file. The Zip file is at the top of the list - a button marked as "Download All". That will still get you the 404 error. However, if you click on each individual part's "Download" button, the STL file is available to download.

This workaround seems to work for any of the Thingiverse files that return the 404 error.

Hope that helps.

It is looking like Thingiverse has gotten rid of the Zip files. If you click on the "Download All Files" button, it now opens a listing of all the project files, with each file having its own download button. Not sure if this is a permanent thing or something temporary.

Thingiverse was having issues where if you loaded a new project you would get hundreds of downloads the first hour. The work-around was to save the project and then wait a day before publishing. I had two projects that I uploaded and published on the same day. The analytics show the massive downloads, then back to the usual one or two downloads per day (see attached image).

The window that opened up when a zip file was being downloaded that was supposed to contain an ad, the only way Thingiverse makes any money, never actually contained an ad in my experience. Maybe, besides the 404 error, they're trying to fix that. Hopefully they do because some projects with lots of files really need to be zipped.

Thingiverse has been really wonky lately. Stuff that has been on the site a while doesn't seem to be as affected as newer posts, but at some level all seem to be affected.

I have several things posted. One project has dozens of likes/collections but hardly any downloads. When you click on the download files button, only one of three files is available. And even reposting the files makes no difference.

Some of the posters are posting to other platforms (such as Prusa-https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints) and leaving a link to those files on Thingiverse. That way they get the eyeballs of Thingiverse, and a reliable link to the files on another platform.
