Interceptor E without a cone...

Some years back my brothers Interceptor E weathercocked on it's first flight and buried itself in the ground destroying the nose cone. Estes with their great customer service sent him an entire new kit. He took the nose cone and decals for it, and gave me the rest.

I don't know what to do with this kit! Short of sourcing another matching nose cone, I have thought often about kit bashing it into who knows what. The body tubes have the assymetrical fin slots cut into it to deal with, and with no nose cone to fit the thing it just collects dust.

I welcome any ideas what to do to make something cool, even a simple 3 fin rocket out of this thing. If anybody can direct me to a nose cone, any nosecone that will definitely fit on this odd body tube it would be much appreciated.

It is my understanding that the Interceptor E uses the PSII 2" tube. (Since this is the Internet, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.) A plain ogive nose cone that fits that tube is available from the Estes website.

PM me and I will try to print you a copy of this nose cone if you like. It wouldn't have as good detail but I'm sure you could add your own detail.

+1 to jbuscaglia's post. I believe it is the same nose cone as the PS II Trajector. The PS II Argent nose cone will also fit but doesn't have the canopy:

Or you can tack on a cardstock canopy. Craftsmanship.

Thanks for the replys…. I now realize the cone from my PS II Maverick fits on this body tube in a pinch. Also I think that Trajector kit looks sharp, never seen that one... that looks like the right cone too. I should kit bash this thing into one of those. The Mole's offer to print a cone is very awesome, I can't believe there was already a file out there for one. I could fabricate a cardstock canopy but fingers crossed I won't have to.

Secondary problem is the lack of decals for the nose, but honestly I am not a huge fan of the look of this kit, kind of looks too busy to me. I will have to think on it.

You could contact John Pursley and see if he will print just the nose decal ‘skin’ for you:

I have a set of skins for the regular Interceptor. They are nice. I’ll likely get a set of the “E” skins, too. But, I would not do just the nose cone with skins. It just would be extremely difficult to match painted Interceptor body to the vinyl. I’d find a Trajector kit, which uses a silver version of the same cone, to use on the Interceptor-E. You could then put a standard PS II nose cone on the Trajector.

You can paint a prefinished PS II kit like the Trajector pretty easily. I ditched the pink colored Prowler by sanding and priming the body tube, fins, and nose cone. I then painted it. The dark gray paint looks nice, with no hint this rocket has a preprinted wrap. Jury is out on the blue cone. I was trying out an old can of Testors and it’s not exactly the color I expected.

I'm assuming the OOP Cosmic Interceptor kit has the same cone?

Yes, same nose cone.
