Mid South Rocketry Sport Launch at Shelby Farms

Day started with a Level Two launch that was part of a Vanderbilt University class project. Interesting project. Class drove over 200 miles for the launch here. L motor. Heck of a class project. Reached an altitude of 3788 feet.

Payload landed on four "Mars Lander" style legs. Once the computer sensed ground contact, it released the parachute to keep it from dragging the payload across the ground. Then it proceeded to level itself using servos in the legs. Once level, it proceeded to take pictures to create a panorama of the landing area.

Then it was time for a blast from the past....

'57 Goony on a B6-4. Everyone was wondering where I got it. Loved the launch lug tail pipes....

Then I tried to get my Estes Tom Cat to get a good flight. Last time I flew it, a wing deployed early and, although it did some acrobatic maneuvers, did settle into a glide about 10 feet off the ground.

So, today's flight was supposed to have addressed those issues. I addressed them so well that the wings didn't deploy at all (well not until it nosed into the thankfully soft ground). Not much damage (easily repairable) but I've decided I'm going to just redo the wire wing restraints entirely.

I made two attempts to get a slide wing rocket glider into the air but after the second time the ignitor burned through without igniting the motor, I thought the rocket gods were speaking to me and decided not to attempt it anymore.

Faithwalker made it to the launch a flew a few of his rockets. And Tiger Hawk made it there as well. He was still walking back from a long walk to retrieve one of his rockets when I left.
