Paint and decal day

I spent yesterday waiting for a mattress delivery, so while I waited, I did some prepping for our potential Saturday launch and painted a few neglected projects that have been hanging around the shop for a while. The masking for the Super Neon XL took two hours alone, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

They look good, Bill.

Yeah, for potential pasture pizza, they look good enough. :chuckle:

Those look great. After seeing your Thunder Bee and Super Neon XL, I’m kinda in a “neon” mood.

I’ve bought 5 cans of Tamiya Fluorescent Red in the past year. I think it was discontinued. Most hobby stores I’ve visited don’t have it. One had 4 cans, so I grabbed those. I bought a can last year and was surprised how glossy it is. Not like most fluorescents.

I like your color change on the Goblin.

I'm kinda lousy with Goblins at the moment. Had to change things up somehow. Our launch tomorrow got moved to the soybean field, so it will definitely see some air.

Bill,
On your Super Neon, did you paint the inside tubes, or did you use colored paper affixed to the insides?

Beautiful work!

Allen

I am curious about your technique doing the inside of the tubes too.

I primed them with white primer, sanded them lightly just to knock the burrs back, hit them with primer again, then fluorescent orange. I do the tubes first, then pull masking tape through lengthwise. I trim the edges close with a hobby knife, press down the edges, and paint the rest of the rocket. This bird was first on the pad today. E9-4 CATO. The only damage was to the blast deflector which was bent almost in half.
