Estes 29mm BP Motors going bye bye? Pro series II too?
 

I've noticed there have only been about three choices for the 29mm BP motors lately.
I personally haven't built a rocket to fly them yet but was thinking about building one soon. With that said the Pro series literally only has one Rocket that isn't an E2X and including the E2X the choices are slim. Does anyone know if the 29mm BP motors and Pro series II is phasing out?
Edit: I notice that ACsupply actually has a full line of 29mm BP motors available. Maybe Estes is restocking?

Estes is seasonal. I would look to see if they maintain current offerings in the catalog or expand them. If they expand kits at all, then at least they are trying to give more razor blade handles for thir razor blades. I would like to see a couple 3" offerings in 29mm. They can still fly with 24mm with adapter. If they have a short payload section, an altimeter associated sale would be likely.

Where are you making this observation? What is this based on? AFAIK Estes is not discontinuing any of its 29mm motors.

The Pro Series II kits that were designed for composite motors were discontinued. I've read in other discussion threads on this forum that Estes will be releasing other builder kits that are designed for use with their black powder 29mm motors.

He is going by the Estes Website. The F15's and some E15's are out of stock on the website. Composites are in stock.

Again, unless Ellis Langford and Bill Stine were blowing smoke during their interview on The Rocketry Show podcast, and John Langford was purposely misleading everyone in the room at the NARAM forum, Estes has plans for continuing their PSII line. What those plans ARE has lead to a great deal of debate - who knows exactly what we’ll see in the future? Nobody but the Langfords, Bill Stine and John Boren know for sure.

My personal guess, based solely on what I’ve read and heard, is more rockets similar to the Star Orbiter and Super Big Bertha. I’m skeptical that the PSII Nike Smoke, MDRM, Leviathan, etc will return since those rockets wouldn’t be good performers on Estes 29mm BP motors (John Langford made a comment about the difficulty of getting more performance out of BP propellant with motors that size). And if they DID bring those heavier PSII classics back they certainly wouldn’t sell them at the highly discounted prices Hobbico set during the pre-bankruptcy sales blow-outs.

Why does Estes still have relabeled Aerotech 29mm motors on their website? Probably because they still have them in stock. And I’d guess we’ll see the 24mm E30 composite motor with an Estes label available for some time since it’s the only recommended motor for the very popular 1/45 Little Joe II.

Take all this with a big grain of salt if you wish since I could be 100% wrong - which wouldn’t make me sad since I missed out on a discounted Nike Smoke!
