Israeli Shavit

I'm thinking about making a scale model of the Shavit for the Aggressor Aerospace line. I definitely want to model the first successful launch (Ofeq-1) - but the data available (even in "Rockets of the World") is pretty shoddy. From this webpage:

https://www.timesofisrael.com/30-ye...tellite-launch/

I was able to find several links that claim to be footage of the Ofeq-1 (also spelled Ofek-1) launch. It shows Rockets of the World is right about one thing - the first launch did not have the blue spiral painted around the lower body that have become the trademark of later Shavit launches. Also, there is an IAI logo on the fairing - but maybe some other writing too? Given the timeframe of the launch (1988), I assume IAI was Israel Aircraft Industries, not Israel Aerospace Industries as it is now. So, I'm asking the folks on this forum:

Anybody have an Israel Aircraft Industries logo, electronically? I can find Israel Aerospace Industries, but not the older version.

Anybody able to find a clearer picture of the vehicle? A truly clear photo would be a godsend!

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Teflon. I STILL can't read that darned fairing! Clearly an "IAI" logo, but for the life of me I can't decipher all of the writing beneath it!

That third link is scary and I can't get it to open. Anything good in there?

This is a zip file from Zach's PaperSat Designs, Space Craft Paper models http://www.zpdmodels.com The zip file contains 3 .pdf files 1 of the Shavit-1 rocket and 2 .pds for the Ofeq satellite. There is no detail on the fairing lettering but check out the wording on this letter head, https://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/i...51 0758;sess=0.

I can send you the Shavit-1 .pdf if you want; this might help you get the fins to scale. I usually get a lot of useful scale data like this out of Zach's site.

Please do! Most of my scale data has been derived from the up-close photos of the so-called "RSA-3" SLV in the South African Air Force Museum. RSA-3 was, of course, a Shavit - so it is an excellent source of data! Nevertheless, I'm always eager to compare my results to others'.

SHAVIT . . .

Thanks - but still not the first flight paint scheme! Also, that "scale data" is pure junk (I REALLY hope you didn't create it; if so, I apologize). At one point, the Israelis were considering a commercial version of Shavit boosted by a Castor 120. I think the commercial company was called "LeoLink" and the Castor 120 version of the rocket was called LK-2 (though I don't fully trust my memory). The creator of that graphic did really poor research! Again though - thanks for the attempt. This vehicle is really a tough nut to crack - probably because of the supposed link between Shavit and a ballistic missile rumored to be called the Jericho 2.

No, I didn't "create" any data . . .

Why don't you post up the data you already have ?

It might be helpful to know precisely what you're looking for and help avoid duplication.

"The vehicle," in this case, is the first Shavit, which launched Ofeq-1. I basically assume, given the secrecy surrounding this vehicle, that nobody will have bona fide scale data!

As for data I have, I have posted before about the wonderful Norbert Bruegge page. That was the first link Teflon posted above. What Teflon DIDN'T link was the RSA LV page: http://www.b14643.de/Spacerockets_1...ption/Frame.htm

This vehicle (RSA-3) is clearly a Shavit, right down to the unique one-piece payload fairing only the Israelis use. Note you can actually see and estimate the correct fin shape (a bit smaller than they are usually drawn). For giggles, the "RSA-4" at the bottom of the page is the hypothetical version with the Castor 120 booster.

Hopefully this is clearer now. Clarity is, after all, what I seek. My kingdom for a clear photo!

A word of "friendly advice" . . .

Tone down the "snark" in your posts or I wouldn't give you the data, even if you were willing to pay me for it !

Here's a poor quality image, but at least it shows the wording and basic layout.
