The aluminum tape is actual aluminum, and yes, the sticky side looks just like the side without adhesive. The adhesive on this stuff is extremely aggressive.

Mylar is a plastic material. It is not particularly stretchy. Neither is Tyvek, which is spun polyethylene fiber that has been laid down as a mat on a chill roll. It is breathable due to small open areas in the mat and so epoxy should permeate sufficiently well to give it good adhesion.
