Out houses still in use in Alaska for remote cabins, even some that are close but "dry", meaning no running water. When visiting a friend near Talkeetna, always check the Styrofoam seat by lifting first. His is fancy, not only Styrofoam seat, small woodstove for winter, has great big window for viewing Mt. Denali. Talk about a picture window...

I live Nikiski, Alaska. Middle of town. Have city water but no sewer service, septic tank only. 4-risers located in yard.

Of course there is a story about a bar with a two-holer from many years ago. Two customers were going at the same time, customer one reached down to lift the seat and a nickel fell out of his shirt pocket. Looking down, he reached into his pocket and grabbed a handful of bills, threw them down the hole. Customer 2 asked," what'd you do that for". Cust 1 replied, "You don't think I'm going down there just for a nickel do ya?"
