I am not sure. The difficult thing about buying somewhat older engines (not necessarily collectable engines, but engines for actual flying) is that you do not know their history, how they were stored, what levels of humidity, heat and cold they have been exposed to. That is why I mentioned in my post about those engines that any potential buyer might want to think about the 'age' of the product if they were interested in buying.
I used a number of the Cobra packaged engines in the late 80s and early 90s and I don't recall having any clay issues with those.
