Default Vintage Estes Nimbus Build

My next build from my vintage pile is the Estes Nimbus rocket. I hope to start next week on this build.

Cool.

I was browsing over the old Estes catalogs I downloaded, and I've noticed that over the years, Estes recycles various designs, changing them a little, and releasing them again. I certainly recognize the nosecone, thats for sure.

That nose cone was first introduced in the early 80's on the Starship Nova.
The only kits that used it were the Starship Nova, the Nova Scout-ship, and the Nimbus.

IIRC, Gordy made a nice balsa recreation or upscale of that cone a few years ago.

He did make one in balsa. A real pain to turn on a lathe.

Here is link to his custom site. That nose cone is in the picture on the home page.

Build looks great, but I gotta say that is an absolutely hideous launch lug location.

Ok, after major rocket surgery from gluing fins on the wrong way, I was able to finish my vintage Nimbus build. This was my first rocket using Sig Sealer and when thinned correctly works pretty good, but not as good as Brodak sealer. The decals went on ok for being old and final weight minus wadding and engine is 33 grams., package shows 34.4 grams finished. Well onto my next vintage build.
