This is a frame from an iPhone slow-motion video of the liftoff, so not nearly as pretty as the picture by Jim Wilkerson that Gary posted in the big Aerotech thread on that other forum.

Where the Black Max Q-Jets are quieter than an Estes black powder motor, these, as my friend Tim Quigg would say, are "expressive".

0-218 mph in 0.5 seconds and less than 100 feet!

Nice, did that need an 8?

You can see from the AltimeterThree screen shot (second image) the actual delay was 6.55 seconds and it was just 0.15s too long. So, in short, no.

I actually have flown a -8 in that model....too long.

Here's flight data for a C18-8W in the same model, flown a little over a week later: https://flightsketch.com/flights/1259/

As you can see in the graph, the delay was too long.

The picture is right at ignition, off of a ~1967 Electro-Launch.

Added: picture of snap-back damage from too-long delay, and time-acceleration curve from the FS Mini, which shows the shape of the time-thrust curve nicely.

Great photo and loving the flame on that - can't wait to stuff 4 of these in the Mini Allegro, should be fun

This might have been discussed before but is there any future thought to a B12-16 18mmx 70mm motor?

If there a major difference in the nozzle dimensions for the A-B vs the CD, resulting in the higher thrust profiles? or is that he internal geometry of the engines themselves. just wondering

B12-16? You really need that long of a delay?

A B12 might be possible with Blue Thunder propellant and a core burning configuration.

The A&B internal geometry and throat sizes are different than the Cs and Ds.

I think he meant a B somewhere from a B12-x to a B16-x.

my Bad....I meant a B12 to B16...... sorry about that.

Yes I assumed the throat and internal geometry are different because of their thrust-time curves....

I betcha a b12 to B16 could throw a payload right up there

I once flew a hard-boiled egg on a cluster of 3xB14-5 in an Astron Scrambler.
Used a hard-boiled egg due to fearing the acceleration may crack a raw egg and did not want the mess.
It took off with warp-speed. Bet a composite B16 would work just as well.

I flew a White-Lightning Q-Jet D20-4W at the club launch today, in a 1:200 Saturn V. Sure makes a nice liftoff!
