I've had to do some decal projects a few times. Most recent was last year. Some enhanced/custom Mars Lander decals for my rocket boosted Quadcopter Mars Lander.

I used scans of the original sheet. Cleaned up a few portions. Redrew a few others. Created a few new ones. And "repurposed" some other images/logos from other sources, like the NASA Meatball. I created the big red stripe with white (clear over white paint) USA in order to use that as a roll pattern to indicate the front of the model when flying it as a Quadcopter.

Flying, with some decals but none on the lower section.

With most of the decals added.

Flying with another "lander".

Stan, for now post them in the Plans & Publications forum. Thanks!

Wolf,

I tested the import using the .PDF that had the embedded fonts. Let's just say that that's not what we want to do. I was able to do the import and get the correct looking font as long as I used the Poppler / Cairo import. However, none of the glyphs were editable.

I think that we're best off converting the text to paths if we want to share the .SVG files.

George makes big pictures and makes big noise, but ultimately makes a zero contribution to this thread with his bitmaps and non-rocketry projects. George could do better than that.

YOU could do better than say that.

You could have asked me to post the custom Mars Lander Photoshop file. The non-Photoshop "vector" version is in either ClarisDraw or MacDraw Pro, ancient dead software that would do nobody any good (and parts of the decals are bit-mapped)

Also, you show your ignorance in calling this a non-rocketry project. If only I'd posted a link to the whole project. Oh, that's right, I did, and clearly you didn't bother.

The Mars Lander Quad can take off on 100% rocket power, ballistic flight, and at apogee, the flight controller onboard detects apogee and activates the motors to stabilize it in a hover as a quadcopter, for me to control for the rest of the flight.

One of the most unique model rockets in the hobby. And you pissed all over it with your ignorance and whatever other stuff caused you to say that crap.

Anyway, here's a liftoff pic. I made the pic smaller so you can appreciate it more than a good quality hi-res pic. Since you like crappy small pics.

If anyone wants to see videos of the rocket boosts, use the link I posted before, I won't post the videos on YORF after Wolf's crap.

Really, WTF. The title of this thread was that decals can be projects too. I posted an example of a custom decal project I did, for a MODEL ROCKET. At a size where people could actually see the details (mojo1986 noticed the subtle "MARTIAN MARIETTA" easter egg). And I get crap over it.

So, I tweaked the Mars Lander Decal’s MacDraw file and was able to save it as a pdf with embedded fonts.

Link to file: https://tinyurl.com/y3wy64hp

Ironic thing is, even though parts of the file are “bit maps”, many of them were BIG, resized down in MacDraw without losing any quality. For example 400% larger than needed, so could be enlarged 400% and still look sharp, rather than 4X jaggies (No, I’m not suggesting a 16” diameter Mars Lander).

The lowest res parts, ironically, were from original Mars Lander decal scans that were not practical enough to try to re-create in MacDraw (unique fonts) or tweak/modify well in Photoshop before pasting back into MacDraw. It really WAS a project to create that sheet.
