Doesn't the Photon Disruptor use the BNC instead of the PNC? I just built one... had balsa. Maybe due to the rise in balsa price the next run will be with plastic?

Personally I kind of prefer plastic cones for some projects...

Estes is apparently converting back to plastic due to balsa shortages/expense.

I think three or four years ago they mis-interpreted our wish for more variety (which balsa can provide) with a wish that *all* cones be made of balsa. At least, that is what I got from an email conversation I had a couple of years ago with the late Mr. Dorffler.

I remember that. They kinda got irate when we complained about some of the kits that were originally plastic coming out in balsa. I think we had to explain that we just preferred balsa where it had historically been present, not on every kit.

has anyone confirmed the 7 kits previously listed do indeed have plastic NC's?
I just checked ACsupply and all 7 are listed as including balsa cones.

When you have this much fixation and this many posts about a single plastic part, you know it defines some folks' lives. Make more.

my fixation was satisfied today at the LHS.
they only had 1 of the many possible NC55AO donors(Monarch), but that one kit did have a plastic NC, and it looked the same as the one in my Vigilante kit, even had the same style rounded shock cord eyelet.

There's one in the new Designer's Special set as well.

HUH, I checked the date of this thread, it's right before I got into RC helicopters.. talk about being fixated..
still enjoying the RC hobby but dusting off the rockets now too. Went to Hobby Lobby today and couldn't believe it, they have a great selection of models and engines, even E12's.
I picked up a few Goblin kits and sure enough they have the PNC55AO nose cone, looks identical to the original down to the shock cord eyelet.

now if they would re-release the Blue Bird Zero I could die happy.

$26.99 from Semroc. And you can take one of the plastic cones from the Goblin kits and put it on the BBZ. Though you'll have to get used to the black print on the decals instead of white.

thanks, i saw the Semroc kit on ebay.
I actually have everything to build a BBZ, even got the decals from Excelsior way back when Phred owned it. they are still sitting in the protective sleeve years later

i just wanted an Estes kit for nostalgia.
one came up on ebay, but bundled with another kit for $100.. don't want it that bad, basically paying $100 for a hang tag and some decals.
